  1. Dallas has last change and they just put their top line on the ice against the Canes 3rd blue line. Be lucky not to lose this game by 3 goals. Dallas getting no offensive zone time but has 2 goals on 3 shots.
  2. I haven't lived in G'Boro since 1998 and I remember the place on High Point Road very well. We used to pick up tailgate food the night before. Technically not a sub, but the best pastrami on rye I've ever had was in Charleston... and I can't remember where... was an old Jewish neighborhood deli downtown, with seating in the back.
  3. Sorry, I misspoke. Jacob Slavin did not practice this afternoon before the flight to Dallas. I have no idea if he was on the flight. I did not read Walt's tweet correctly. Apologies.
  4. Did not make the flight to Dallas. Lower body injury.
  5. No way do you trade your top winger and sniper. C'mon, you guys, you're smarter than this.
  6. if your agent hasn't done any better than give you a $10k margin of error on the closing costs calculations, I'd fire him yesterday. No. As stated before, closing costs are part of the settlement and are doled out at closing (hence, the name "closing costs.") Fire your agent and get a reputable agent with an established real estate company. Part of the calculations that go into an asking price are: comps, tax value. real value, current interest rates, etc. As stated before, unless you are asking less than what you owe (upside down); asking less than what will net you anything, including closing costs; or are on the precipice of a bankruptcy (even then you could request a short sale from the bank). Something seems pretty whack if you're having to take a loss on the sale of a home.
  7. Not until every other candidate has been hired by another team and there's nobody left except an old, mediocre retread who will guarantee a sub .500 season.
  8. In that case, you'd have to offer up KK as well. He's getting paid way too much money as a 4C. That matching offer stunt to get him out of Canada may have looked okay last year, but it looks like a waste of money this year unless he somehow starts tearing it up in the 2nd half of the season.
  9. I'm not bailing on a possible Tarasenko (STL) deal either. Matter of fact, I'd be willing to discuss O'Reilly (STL), Dylan Larkin (DET), Horvat (VAN), JT Compher (COL).
  10. I get what you're saying and while our end goals are obviously the same, we have differing philosophies as to how to get there.
  11. But it's an investment that will be here for a few years, versus a Patrick Kane-type arrangement which will also cost a ton, and it's a one-shot deal. I have no problem giving up something as long as the ROI is over the course of 3-5 years and not a short term hopeful fix.
  12. I'm not there on these short term rentals. There are already a couple on the roster, and it'll be enough trying to replace them in the off-season without adding a few more to the mix. The Canes success for the past few years is predicated on building a team of players who will bring consistency and a winning mentality. What the Canes have accomplished in that regard in recent years is nothing short of phenomenal. You had a team languishing in sub-mediocrity, a fan base who had given up and attendance sucked. Enter Tom Dundon and Don Waddell, and here we are. Not only did they bring a formula to win, they brought the fans back and they built a team of exciting, young players eager to play for RBA and that, my friends, is the culture and the identity of this team. Look, I loved the Blackhawks when they had their run. Patrick Kane may be the best American born hockey player ever, and Toews is no slouch either. But giving up 2 draft picks and Drury goes against everything the team was built on. It's fugging hard to win a Cup. And if it doesn't happen with Kane and Toews, where is the team then? Without 2 draft picks and Drury- essentially 3 players. I'd much rather find a Bo Horvat, who would not only fill the Patches void, but also likely remain with the team with an extension. There is no shortage of players who want to come here and play for RBA. The key is just finding the right guy who fits the chemistry.
  13. Cheaper than Pacioretty. And Don W signed Burns (38), Statsny (37) and Pacioretty (34).
  14. Am I a bad fan because I trust the blue line to score and short-handed goals more than the PP? Anyway, gonna miss most, if not all the game tonight due to an obligatory social engagement with the wife's job. On a positive note, the Canes are wearing white tonite and the event I'm being dragged to, kicking and screaming, is an all-white wine dinner, so we'll be in white as well.
  15. Statsny's early season performance was lackluster, at best, playing on the 4th line. KK has been the same centering the 2nd line. Look what's happened since RBA swapped them- Statsny is playing much better with a couple net front goals on the 2nd line and KK looks better with the 4th line. He's getting looks and is more inclined to take a shot now. Now, if KK makes some major strides this season, he could keep himself on the roster next season, but he's pretty overpaid for a 4th line center. Keep in mind he does have the ability to play the 2nd as well. Regardless, if Horvat came to Raleigh, I would anticipate an extension to keep him around after the end of the year if everything works out. The 4 centers, assuming Staal doesn't retire: Aho, Horvat, Staal, KK
  16. Tarasenko is a younger version of Pacioretty, by a couple years is all. But he's on IR as well with a 4-week hand injury from Jan 2. He does have 29 points in the 34 games he's played. He's also a UFA after this season. I'd be interested if the Canes could land him with a prospect and a reasonable price. Again, I don't think he's a $7.5M player, but... Horvat has 49 points in 45 games and is 4 years younger than Tarasenko. He's currently playing out a $5.5M contract and is also a UFA at the end of the year. He could be a long term fix at the center position for the Canes on the 2nd line replacing Paul Statsny, who, at 37, will be gone after the season. And who knows how much longer Jordo is going to play?
  17. I re-watched the game on BSSO this afternoon and Max got his skate blade caught in a rut right on the goal line just a few feet from the net. His right foot was turned ever so slightly and his skate blade was all on the ice. Typically, an achilles injury occurs when the foot is coming up as the trailing leg while running or skating. It really looked like a twisted ankle to me, with tendon or ligament damage a possibility. The few achilles injuries I've seen didn't look like that. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but..
  18. Before the Canes can do anything, they need to free up some cap space beyond the current $3.1M they have. I don't think anything will be in the works until Max's injury is thoroughly diagnosed. If he goes on LTIR and/or is done for the season, the additional space may precipitate a move. I'd certainly entertain any move that would include Bo Horvat, but not give up the farm for him.
  19. Per Walt Ruff, the MRI on Max's injury has been delayed until Monday to allow things to settle a bit. The Canes skated this morning, obviously without Max, and Jacob Slavin was also absent. Should be noted that Slavin did not play the last few minutes of last night's game. Hopefully, just some rest for him as much ice time as he gets. 20230119_214248.mp4 20230119_214248.mp4 20230119_214248.mp4 20230119_214248.mp4
  20. After joining up with Stephen Stills and forming CSN, their first live performance together was Woodstock. How's that for breaking onto the music scene. You guys all know how old I am- growing up and spending the first 38 years of my life there, this music was everything to me. Losing him and Jeff Beck in the last couple weeks only serves to remind us of our mortality. I'll be spinning a bunch of my vinyl today.
