Nope. Too much like Rivera for me. Very likable guy that you root for, gets the players keyed in, but too conservative and I don't see him being much more than a mediocre coach that keeps us in the 9-8 -> 10-7 range. I'm pulling for him to succeed but do not want for our HC. I think he got a raw deal in AZ too. Doubt he would stay on for DC under a new regime, but I wouldn't be against it.

More trade predictions from LaCanfora
Soul Rebel replied to Paa Langfart's topic in Carolina Panthers
FA this offseason, so we don't have the $$ in '23, but '24 our cap is looking much more reasonable. Would solve our IDL issue. Would a third rounder get him? Proven 25-year old DT next to Brown. Not sure if they would pair well or mirror each others strengths/weaknesses. Truthfully, don't understand why WAS would trade him unless they don't think they can re-sign him this summer. -
I think one of Jackson/Henderson aren't here next year. I wonder what we could get for Donte. Not wanting to give up Horn/Brown/Burns/Chinn is the right move. I just wonder if Donte could fetch a draft pick worth moving him. I really like Taylor and hope he gets the reps to continue improving. He could be our CB2 of the future if given the chance. Hopefully iron sharpens iron. If not, it's okay because we have four CBs that can lock that position down for awhile.

I don't want to be in the camp that doesn't like a QB because of size, but I can't get past Young's. He's a legit 5'10...maybe 5'11". He's under 200 lbs. After watching Tua and Murray get banged around, I just have a hard time investing a #1 overall pick in him. Russ made a career of moving the pocket and being evasive. The rules have changed moreso, so perhaps there's hope for Young. Hurts seems to be doing the same. They just have stronger, more stout frames than Young. I want to be wrong. I'll wait until the entire season shakes out.....playoffs, combine, pro-day, interviews, etc. There's nothing about Young's production and playing style that I don't like other than him sometimes taking off sooner than I'd like. I'm rooting for him and if he ends up a Panther, so be it. His leadership, athleticism and drive are top flight.

That game when Fields got knocked around and was Byron Leftwiching his team to the W was one of the top performances of the past decade. He was my QB2 that year and am sad to see how he's fared thus far in the NFL.

PFT ARTICLE: The Panthers slide squarely into tank mode
Soul Rebel replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thx to Miami forfeiting their first rounder this year. 2 picks in the top-32 and 4 picks within the top 50 selections. I wonder how Fitts approaches this. Can't imagine we are selecting in our designated slots, outside of R1. -
Ben Johnson, DeMeco Ryans, Dan Quinn, Brian Flores, Ken Dorsey
Soul Rebel replied to jb2288's topic in Carolina Panthers
No doubt Tepper is keeping an eye on the Steelers to wait and see the fate of Tomlin. That’s the guy that makes the most sense. I’d also take Flores or Ryans along with an up and coming OC. It sure who either of them would bring (don’t want Canada; not sure who’s in SF). Dorsey and Johnson are top OCs but not really sure if they are HC material quite yet. I think if we do wait until the end of the year on Tomlin, Dorsey and Johnson will have more tape to evaluate. -
week five mandatory post game fire rhule demand thread
Soul Rebel replied to PhillyB's topic in Carolina Panthers
4 offensive TDs in 4 games (2 by the defense) is such a glaring reflection of where we are at in year three of the Rhule era. We've regressed. Firing him won't necessarily equate to less losses, but it does recalibrate the locker room and direction. Rhule is a lame duck. Year three was a "hot seat" year to see if he truly had turned a corner with his shiny new toys (McAdoo, Campen, Baker, Ekonwu) and a healthy CMC. Nope. Byeeeeeeeeeeee. Let's cut this sh*t show and look forward to '23. Hopefully trade Robby, Shaq and Donte along the way, lock in the #1 pick for Stroud and begin the slow climb back to relevance. I'm hoping for Flores or Payton as HC....no more college coaches. -
Much how the past 5 years have been "what could have been" as we were up to our eyeballs in mediocrity with Hurney, Rivera and Rhule, the New York Giants are no different. Awful record the past few years with equally as embarrassing HCs Elite RB when healthy, but can't stay off the IR Bottom-5 QB that is not the future of the franchise Vanilla, uninspiring gameplans with no identity The Giants are 4-1 because of coaching. Daboll gets it. Kafka was a rising OC name coming up in KC and Martindale is a HC candidate that has the Giants' D playing above par. They pulled the trigger on firing Judge when he was clearly not "the guy" as HC. We didn't and we deserve everything that is currently in front of us. For an Owner that said "mediocrity won't be tolerated" ....... it's all bs. Find your brass balls, fire Rhule and Co. after we get humiliated at home again today and let's close this chapter. "Mediocrity" would be an improvement.

Week 1 General Discussions - Talk to me about the Browns
Soul Rebel replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I sure hope Sauce turns out to be the second coming of PP or Ramsey. They passed on Icky (thank you Jets) and have watched two LTs go down to season ending injuries. Kinda like us with Horn > Slater. -
Panthers trade for wide receiver Laviska Shenault
Soul Rebel replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rashard Higgins will be 28 in October and on a one-year deal. Zylstra and Saunders are meh. Great in August....JAGs the rest of the year and not enough to pass up on a 23-yr old WR that has actually produced in the NFL. TMJ should be held onto to see if he can A.) stay healthy B.) step up when competition comes in to take his lunch money. I think this makes sense in a Cordarelle kinda way. Kick the tires for peanuts and see if you can push TMJ to be better, or maybe you find a youngster that can be your WR4/gadget play weapon. His contract is insanely team-friendly. -
I don’t hate turf per se, I just wonder why ours looks more like Lumen Field than SoFi. We just put turf down in 2021, yet it looks and plays like turf from the early 2000’s. SoFi is beautiful. We have the richest owner. Makes zero sense why our field looks so awful.

Brandon Smith for sure looks the part in preseason....hope it continues over to productivity on Sundays. If he an Luvu can continue to shine, our LB corps will be nasty.
-
Would we not eat a portion of it to make him go away the way CLE did with Baker? We take on $8-10M of his contract in order to relieve us of $8-10M and remove him from our QB room? Baker + 50% of Darnold's salary = ~ $20M for our QB1.
-
I hope Rambo can make it to the PS.....would like to let him marinate there for a year or two. Agree with OP on the seven mentioned. Zylstra is 29 already and is a good WR4, but I'd prefer the loser of the WR3 battle of TMJ/Higgins there, then Saunders....even Shi above Zylstra for long-term needs. Roberts should be strictly a KR/PR and maybe a bench guy if needed in a game. The Higgins-TMJ competition is going to be fun to watch. Higgins and Baker have chemistry, so I think Higgins wins it out initially. I do believe TMJ will find ways to get involved and four-wide sets won't be an uncommon thing with the talent we have. TMJ is the future and Higgins is only on a 1-yr deal.

Corral will flash in quarters three and four of the preseason games against back-up talent. He'll look promising and a QB to bank on in the future. Corral will look good in practices and have fans and hopefully coaches licking their chops for 2023. Baker v. Darnold will be the true TC and preseason competition. Baker will win it out, Darnold will be QB2 and PJ gets cut.

Dear God that's beautiful.

I'd take Elflein over everyone else at LG. The other four positions are essentially locked.....it's that LG spot up for grabs. Ereck Flowers is still on the market. 28-year old former tackle, that converted to guard and played better there. His cap hit is why WAS cut him, IIRC. Depends on if we want to trust 4/5 OL to hold it down and shuffle the young guys and Elflein at LG vs. adding another FA to our OL. I'm not against Mays/BC/Brown competing over the next year to see if they are the long-term solution. On Sundays though....I only want them rotating in to give the starters a blow.

Tepper beta testing the black helmets to gauge interest. Hopefully the feedback is enough to move forward with this permanently.

former Panther Rashard Anderson dead at 45
Soul Rebel replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed. I feel like lately I'm reading about a lot of former NFL players dead before the age of 50. Some CTE related, but other just random deaths too. So sad. -
I think Dunlap is a UFA signing that is just waiting for the unnecessary mini camp reps that vets usually try to avoid happen. This will help the DL rotation. To the OP, our secondary has to be a strength both in traits, and depth. Vets and youngsters. Shaq and Littleton will also pair well in between.

Same same. I would love for Corral to be all that we hope he can be for the future. I love his style of play, his moxy and leadership in the locker room. He has that DNA/blueprint to being a successful NFL QB. Time will tell if he reaches that potential. This is where Mayfield helps. Corral can live in the film room, watch the speed of the NFL up close, but not in a starter role, and ask all the questions he has of the vets.

Baker is a polarizing QB, no doubt. He does give off crybaby vibes at times. I do believe that he has a passion for the game and hatred to lose much like CN1. I think he speaks his mind....sometimes too far much like CN1. I do think Baker should have done more with what he had on paper in Cleveland. I do think he got a raw deal in Cleveland by the front office and people are focusing too much on the '21 season. The guy played for 15 weeks with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder and eventually, a fractured bone in the same shoulder. Outside of the 1 week with Covid and the bye week, Baker played 13 games when he probably should not have. The amount of stress that front facing shoulder took snap after snap, week after week being punished as QBs do. The mechanical issues that his throwing motion would have suffered because of it are being overlooked. His rookie year and 2020 season were both top-12 overall QB seasons. I don't think Baker is our surefire franchise QB for the next 5-10 years, but I do think he will make a lot of Panthers fans happy in 2022. All indications point to a bounce back year for Mayfield this year with an enoromous chip on his shoulder. If Baker can buy us a year or two (if we franchise him next year) until Corral is ready to take over, it's a win..... and I feel like that's all that Fits is trying to do. Jimmy would've cost more, and we can't roll Darnold/PJ out week one, so let's look at the glass half full. Where Darnold struggled with confidence and passion, Baker thrives. A healthy offseason, a new franchise and in a contract year should offer Mayfield the opportunity to succeed. I for one am psyched for week one against the Browns. This clip of Baker's first NFL start is pretty amazing and indicative of the QB I think we will see in week one.

Baker is QB1 for 2022 Corral projects to be QB1 for 2023 Let the rookie who has room to grow, learn in the film room, under minimal expectations and a year to adjust to the speed of the NFL. We're paying $24M for our starting QB. Not great.....but by no means the worst. Baker is a bit better than Darnold and with a chip on his shoulder, is a win-win for us. If Baker is as awful as everyone thinks, we're barely out any assets, and Rhule is for sure not here beyond 2022.
