Our run defense in RIvera's last season was one of the worst in NFL history. We averaged allowing 5.2 yards per carry. It has gotten progressively better in each season sense. 4.7 in 2019, and 4.1 per carry last year (middle of the pack in the NFL). If that trend continues, it could be top 10 in the NFL this year.

Robbie/y on I Am Athlete podcast speaking on Sam & Baker
Davidson Deac II replied to Mills's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lots of fans question those guys. DJ Moore didn't get ripped as much as Anderson, but him and Burns got questioned a lot last year. -
You may be right, but I think I could call plays if I had the level of talent he had at LSU playing against College teams. I vaguely remember that all but three of their starting offensive team have started games in the NFL.

Our quarterback related decisions have been a cluster#$%^ from day one. That is the main issue I have with Rhule. And if Mayfield/Corral doesn't work out, it will be why he is canned by Jan 2023.

So what happens with Darnold if Baker is the starter
Davidson Deac II replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Assuming no one is willing to trade, financially, it would make sense to keep Darnold as the backup. We gain nothing by cutting him, and if someone gets injured, he would be a somewhat warm body. But Corral needs to be on the roster as well, so it probably depends on if they want to keep three qb's on the roster. But based on past history, they may just cut him if they can't trade him. -
Why so much optimism for Corral?

This. All the others are known quantities. Corral is not. -
Is Baker Mayfield the second best QB in the NFC South?
Davidson Deac II replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just goes to show how unlikely it is that those top 5, top 10 qb's actually live up to their billing. Which is why I don't really give a crap about a top five pick for next year. -
Big Ten and SEC fixing to dismantle the ACC?
Davidson Deac II replied to Squirrel's topic in Carolina Panthers
For now. But the ratings are dropping. If they continue to drop, no way the networks are going to continue to be able to afford the payments, since advertisers will find better ways to spend their advertising dollars. -
Big Ten and SEC fixing to dismantle the ACC?
Davidson Deac II replied to Squirrel's topic in Carolina Panthers
I said as we know it. Certainly, some college sporting events will survive and maybe even thrive, and it actually wouldn't bother me to much if the local college teams got back to playing regional rivals and let the big football factories wring every last dollar, they can out of TV networks until the cash cow inevitably dries up. -
Big Ten and SEC fixing to dismantle the ACC?

IMO, College Sports as we know it is dying. Ratings continue to drop. And the new conferences are turning themselves into a NFL farm team league, and as they become less and less connected to the actual universities, can't help but wonder if the fanaticism that fans show will lessen. Its already happening in some areas. USC football use to be one of the biggest sporting events in Los Angeles, now it's probably not even in the top five. And wont be even if they start playing for national championships again. When I was growing up, boxing was one of the biggest sports in the US. Now it's a sideshow. Can't help but wonder if College Football will see something similar over the next 20 years. -
Predictions: Biggest Leap/Biggest Fall
Davidson Deac II replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
Biggest leap, Yetur Gross Matos. -
I certainly don't think it would happen. I just don't like any other option. I think there is a possibility our coaching staff wants it. Rhule is probably a little on the desperate side, and under some pressure to show improvement this year. And getting even an average qb would help, whether its Mayfield or Jimmy G. But I don't think should give up much to get said qb. Not that the team listens to me.

Watson's people expecting a full season suspension
Davidson Deac II replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lets just hope he can learn from his mistakes. -
I have hope for Corral, but Darnold made some amazing plays at times. Amazing plays are great, but what I want to see is fewer bad plays, along with being cool under pressure when the game is on the line.

If its the first six games of the season, could hurt the Aint's quite a bit. Three conference games plus Cincy and the Vikings.

Carolina this year is no doubt a better situation than Jacksonville last year. Its not even really a question. Rhule might not be good at being an NFL coach, but Urban Myer was probably one of the worst choices in the history of the NFL.

What went wrong? The Sam Darnold Experiment (Video)
Davidson Deac II replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we are basing our qb selection on where the qb went to college, I suppose that means we should select Devin Leary. I mean Russel Wilson, Philip Rivers, Roman Gabriel (yes, I am old), and a few others who have started games in the NFL. -
Even if they were throwing the hype, the hype is more often than it is right.

Might be loaded. It's anyone's guess as to how good they really are.

Watson's people expecting a full season suspension
Davidson Deac II replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I feel like in some areas at least, the guys in charge have made solid decisions. Not spectular, but solid. But when it comes to quarterback, our decisions have gotten progressively worse. Signing Bridgewater and releasing Cam, trading for Darnold, and then trying to trade for Watson and all of his legal issues. I am so glad that we were accidentally saved from making what would have been one of the worst decisions in franchise history.
