Should Shenault get more playing time?
Davidson Deac II replied to YourLastThought's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fwiw, I think Ian has played ok that last couple of weeks. Given how little we throw the ball, the three catches are decent. And his blocking has held up well. -
54 possessions a game would be the most dominant offense in the history of the NFL. Or the worst defense in the history of the NFL.
-
I said offense, as in the whole offense. And the run game is part of the offense too. So those numbers count to. And most importantly, 14th in points per game.
-
Why on earth would the Giants not call a timeout and try to get in fg range? Gano has a big leg. And why would the Cowboys call one for them? Maybe because the Cowboys knew the Giants offense couldn't move it?

After watching some of the games over the last few weeks, I have come to the conclusion that our offense is not terrible. It is decidedly average. Unfortunately, some bad end game decisions and poor red zone play are the reason we are 1-2. I doubt those two things will get better, but one can always hope.

got to admit I wasn't paying much attention, but it seems that most of the time, a blocked kick isn't the fault of the kicker.

Give me some hope. Can this offense be turned around?

Looking at the stats for the season, we are tied for third in number of fg's made. Most of them are in the 30-39 yard range. And that a big part of our problem. Our inside the 30 yard line just fizzles. -

Personally, I don't think it's a matter of adjustments. I think the offense just has to get use to playing together. And its not just us. There seem to be a lot of offenses around the league that look out of sync. Tampa, Denver, Kansas City (at times), Bengals, Titans, etc.... I think its somewhat normal for September games. The teams that get it together contend for playoff spots. Those that don't, begin planning for the offseason. -
On a positive note at least we’re not the worst

Have they? I mean their two wins are against teams that that have 1 win between them. They lost to a good team (by three scores), but their two wins, well I know SF was better last year, but they look pretty bad so far this year. And Texas has yet to win a game. -

In 2015, the offense struggled for the first 3 games or so. They didn't really get it together until the fourth game. I do think, that with the exception of qb, this team has more talent on offense than the 2015 team did. Of course, qb is a fairly important position. And 2015 had a more opportunistic defense that could win games even if the offense was struggling. But turn arounds, and improvements do happen. Do I think this is going to be like 2015? No, of course not. Could we turn it around and challenge for a playoff spot. We could. Will we? Probably not, but I will keep watching just in case. -

Fwiw, the next defense we face isn't going to give him that much open space. -

Sure, if Shi Smith had three consecutive seasons of thousand yard plus receiving. -
60% of NET passing yards, not 60% of passing yards.

Its still early in the season, but at this point, no team looks dominant. Well other than the Eagles, and I am still not sure about them yet.
-
We looked better today than either of these teams.
-
This game today reminded me of the Eagles game last year. Defense dominated most of the game but weakened during the fourth. But we won this one because Darnold wasn't out there throwing it to the other team.
-
I'd pick Clausen over Darnold. Or Kyle Allen. Or Woodie Allen.
-
His performance hasn't been great, but Rex Ryan is about as poor a judge of qb talent as I have seen from an NFL coach.
-
The Panther announcers in the Post game show called out the scheme as being different. Jake Delhomme mentioned it. More pressure on the runners and the qb.
-
They haven't? We have lost to a lot of sub 500 teams over the last three years or so. They have done fairly well against Jameis Winston.
-
On the post game show, it was stated that the focus was putting pressure on the runners and on Winston. Chinn was specifically called out as playing closer to the line than normal.
-
I think the offense could get better as the season rolls along. Right now they look out of sync, but they could get in sync. Our defense usually looks good against Jameis. And the Giants are one dimensional. If they can't run, they can't score much. We might end up the season a top ten defense, but I am not sure they can carry us. The offense is going to have to improve.

Baker Mayfield has more TD passes than Tom Brady.
-
I know its early in the season,, but Jalen Hurts is playing about as well as any qb in the NFL right now.
