Eli Manning gets PAID

An extension on his current deal which has 1 year left... So his contract now will be 7 years 106 million.

His career passer rating is 76.1.

QBs with a higher rating include: Byron Leftwich, Jake Delhomme, Jason Campbell, among many others.

Tim Couch and Patrick Ramsey have career passer ratings less than 2 points lower than Eli's.

I'd like to think that WINNING is alot more important than the QB rating stat but if ppl really want to get stuck up on career QB rating than would that mean Daunte Culpepper was a better quarterback than the likes of Dan Marino and John Elway? All Eli has done for us in New York is win...4 straight playoff appearances including a super bowl title with him as MVP, not to mention he is coming off a pro bowl year and has been an iron man for us. His yearly salary is now on the level of Matt Shaub and Cassel's and the 35mill guarentee'd is much less than Stafford and even Suggs received.

Were the Giants winning because of Eli?

next to Vick & Favre, he has to be the most overrated QB of all time

Fixed.. :P

Eli still has a ton of critics so I can't call him overrated to that extent though. Everyone knows by now that I like the kid, and IMO there's no denying he is:

a) A big reason they made the playoff run they did in 07 (SB performance was ehhh though, not bad not great, he made a few timely plays, no doubt, but had some big time luck on his side on quite a few)

B) One mentally tough SOB which I respect BIG BIG TIME

c) Not an elite QB by ANY definition of the word or stretch of the imagination (but I don't think teams need elite QBs to be successful)

Since taking the starting job over the Giants have gone 41-23 so he must have been doing something right....and yes I would have to say he was one of the main factors behind our Superbowl run.

4 years prior to Eli we were 27-37...

Great.

The Panthers are 51-32 in games with Jake since 2003.

The 4 years prior they were 23-41.

Based on those stats Jake is a winner, but I'd still be pissed if he got a contract that averaged $15 million a year. And yes, Jake is older than Eli, but he has only been the starting quarterback for 2 seasons more than him.

i remember back in the day when all you had to do was get in his face a little and he would freak out...

I think some of those fears are still there, his protection has just gotten better.

he still does that, you just got to hit him early in the game...and i mean wax his ass and he is poo the rest of the game

Ofcourse you would be pissed but last I checked Jake isn't Superbowl MVP coming off a probowl season...not to mention Jake is 34 and Eli is 28. I honestly have no idea why people are upset about this..this happens almost every year. We gave up ALOT to get him and he is our FRANCHISE quarterback...and compared to what the rookies are getting I think Eli deserves it, what was our other option? Let him hit free agency? Because im sure he would have seen more than 35M guarenteed in there.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
