Josh Norman to cover .... Megatron?

Recommended Posts

Like most have already said, Calvin Johnson is Calvin Johnson, and he will get his, regardless of who or how many are covering him. QB pressure is the best way to stop Detroit.

However, history would tell us that the best way to guarantee Johnson has a big game is for an opposing player to say something about him before the game. In Detroit we call that the 'Dez Bryant effect'. :)

Ball control. QB pressure. People are giving us no chance in this game and think Stafford is more mobile than Cam now.

Honestly, I expect a pretty decent game. Local papers here in Michigan favor you guys, and rightfully so. It was fun watching them beat the Giants, but it was the Giants. This game will actually be a test for Detroit.

Stafford is certainly more mobile than he was last year, but anyone who claims he is more mobile than Cam Newton is high.

I will say this again, we will get in matts face the entire game but my worry is Matt is looking elusive as hell in the pocket and don't let people fool you he is an athlete. We gotta be balls to the wall or they will eat us alive.

One thing I will say for Detroit, last year they picked a game plan and ran it without flinching, whether it was working or not. Drove me batty. Now, it's only been one game, but Lombardi seems to understand that on the fly adjustments must be made to adapt to game conditions. This is one of the reason most Lions fans are over-confident right now. My worry is that even with a coach who can recognize ineffective plays and alter a game plan, Stafford will resort to the mind set of 'crap, crap, crap. heave it to Johnson'. That might work some of the time, but can't always count on it. If you guys can get in his head early, and force him back to 2013 Stafford, it will be a long day for the Lions.

We all know how good megatron is and we all know he will have somewhat of a factor in the passing game but what I'm worried about is the talent around him. Golden Tate was Seattles top WR last year and almost had 100 yards his first game. He is a good WR and if everyone is focused on Megatron he will burn you. They have a trio of TEs, this will be a big problem for us in the red zone and not to mention they are athletic. They arguably have the best trio of running backs in the NFL. Bush can make big plays with his speed and can catch, Bell can run over you and Theo Riddick can be a threat as well. Their offensive line is at least above average so it looks like our front seven will have a tough battle to win.

If we can beat the lions I see us going 5-0 or at least 4-1.

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
