Mid season optimistic/pessimistic for the NFC South

Buccaneers

Optimistic: Outside of games in Atlanta and Baltimore, the Buccaneers have been competitive; and, even after a 1-6 start, sit just two games out of first place in the NFC South.

Pessimistic: Tampa Bay’s big free agent signings have proven to be bad investments, and now the team is locked into paying low-impact players a lot of money for the next few seasons.

Falcons

Optimistic: The Falcons are still in the race for the division, and with the talent on the roster, they could be a coaching change away from turning things around.

Pessimistic: Atlanta has a lot of talent, but all of it is on the offensive side of the ball. And the injuries along the offensive line have limited their biggest strength: the down-field passing game.

Panthers

Optimistic: The Panthers are still in first place in the NFC South, and the defense is too talented to continue playing the type of football that has it ranked at the bottom of the NFL.

Pessimistic: Greg Hardy, the key to the team’s defensive success last season, isn’t likely to return with his domestic violence trial looming. And the offensive personnel surrounding QB Cam Newton is too limited to make up for a below average defense.

Saints

Optimistic: The Saints will play for first place in the division on Thursday in Charlotte after a rough start. The team sits at 3-4 but three of those losses were by a field goal or less.

Pessimistic: The Saints are still a mess on the road, and the slow start has ended any hopes of them getting homefield advantage in the playoffs.

    • I'm not sure that in a fair QB competition that Young would beat out Jones.
    • That's why I said stats aside. I lived in CO during Allen's college career and didn't have kids at the time so I watched most of his games. Bruh, I'm telling you. Balls just spraying all over the place. The type of throws where you're honestly trying to figure out who he was even trying to throw that one too. It was crazy. Richardson was inaccurate in college but at least you could tell who he was trying to throw it too. He threw a lot of early in the game Cam Newton type balls where it seemed like he was just a little too amped up and everything was a few feet high. Richardson's misses looked like they were maybe fixable with working on his footwork, release, etc. Josh Allen's misses looked like "ain't no way you're fixin' that poo, dude has a cannon equipped with no sights". LOL Huge props to the Bills for evaluating him as fixable and indeed fixing him.
    • A lot can change over the next week, but here is my best 53-man roster (note: I'm just basing this on guys on the 90 man roster currently).
