so it's not LaFell, given a better team he is a better player.

He's a more effective player on the Patriots, sure, but probably not much better, if at all. He had plenty of chances to step up in Carolina and couldn't or wouldn't do it. It's not like he'll go somewhere after NE and be a #1, or even their #1 for that matter.

The guy has the talent of a good to very good receiver, but seems to lack the mental edge required to elevate his game and truly stand out on his own.

again the difference is the team and that says something about all the naysayers who have directed their displeasure at the wrong target. it is our team that made him less than what was expected.

Not really. Good players elevate their team, and average players look good in ideal situations (Alvin Harper comes to mind). LaFell is an average player with above average talent who will not elevate a team, but will perform well in an ideal situation.

Sorry no, you can't have both. Looking at LaFell is the fatal flaw when we need to be looking at our team.

No one is saying that the team doesn't need to improve. We are saying that LaFell is not a long-term improvement at $5 M per year.

I don't care about that, it is vitriol spewed about him that bothers me when it is clearly more than just him that is an issue here.

It is the same as the negativity towards Norman in the preseason.

Just re-read the thread and don't see any vitriol, particularly from me, but whatever. Bottom line is that LaFell does not improve Carolina long-term and Carolina wouldn't/couldn't pay what NE offered. Seems like a mutually beneficial split.

I don't know what your agenda is or what 'greater truth' you think you're espousing, but I have already acknowledged that Carolina needs to improve. However, KB has come in as a rookie with a skillset similar to LaFell's and already comfortably and willingly become a #1 WR target in this offense, something LaFell could not achieve, and per his public comments before the final Atlanta game was not interested in achieving, even in his fourth year with an arguably better supporting cast than KB has. The results speak for themselves, and it clearly shows that the Panthers will no longer invest heavily in average players.

I am happy that LaFell found a situation better suited to him and his style at a nice salary, but Carolina was right to not match the offer and Carolina fans are within reason to point out his flaws. I have nothing more to say on the subject, so you're going to need to single out a different poster if you wish to continue your crusade.

you are full of yourself aren't you? you are the guy at the stadium where he hears someone across the stadium yell "hey Dave", you look and look to see who is yelling. They do it periodically throughout the game but you never see who it is. Finally they do it as you are leaving , so upset and aggravated you yell back, "My name's not Dave."

quit singling your self out and we will see if you have nothing more to say on the subject.

If thrown to more LaFell catches more. The point is the Panthers and their system not LaFell. The point is also that LaFell is not as horrible as many were saying about him in the off season, hence vitriol.

    • Um, no, just no. Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, Bengals, Texans, Eagles, Commanders are 8 teams that it's not even a debate, they aren't trading their QB for Purdy. Patriots, Broncos, Titans, Giants, Bears, Vikings, Falcons are 7 more teams with QBs drafted in the last 2 years that also would rather stick with them than trade for Purdy as they all have more upside than he does. Lions, Packers, Cowboys, Bucs are 4 more that would likely keep their QB's as well, age aside for Goff, Dak, and Baker. Panthers and Colts are two teams in the same situation, QB's who have both struggled and shown flashes to where the teams probably stick with them because they drafted them, but in a re-draft of all QB's, they probably take Purdy over the guy they currently have. Jags, Cardinals, Dolphins, are 3 more with QB's who probably have a higher upside than Purdy but come with their own question marks, so debatable if they'd take Purdy over who they already have. That leaves Jets, Raiders, Steelers, Browns, Saints, Seahawks, and Rams. Rams would take him over Stafford for the future of course, but not for 2025, and I'd think the Seahawks would take him over Darnold, but honestly not sure if they would take him over Milroe at this moment as they really like his potential and have him for 4 years really cheap. That leaves 5 teams that I see who would absolutely take him over their current situation right now, and a handful of others who MIGHT take him over their current guy, a far cry from your 20.
    • Agreed. Also as soon as they received the top pick in the next draft it was over. Bears won that trade. Gave up a top overall pick got one the next year plus pick 9, a couple 2nds, and DJ Moore a proven young WR. Had their 2024 pick from us be in the late teens or later it would be more debatable IMO.
    • Option A:  Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B:  Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position.    How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid?   When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam.  Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
