Most of what I listen to today (proggy metal) is probably shaped more by Rush and Pink Floyd, and then heavier stuff like earlier thrash and death metal.

 

I'd say any rock or metal song today, though, can trace some sort of lineage back to Zeppelin or Sabbath.

Also, good point about Rick Rubin and other producers, as they have a huge hand in the shaping of things.
