Identifying the NFL LTs, not the OG/RT converts, and who we could realistically land

I figured since this is again our most glaring need outside of WR and Safety, a good discussion could be had about what makes these prospects LT capable and who actually projects to play the position in the NFL.

This class may be slightly thin in regards to this but let's look at some of these guys and see who could fit the bill.  I honestly see only 2 outside the top-3 OTs that stand out to me:

Jake Fisher  (6'6 300, Oregon)

Ty Sambrailo (6'5 315, Colorado St.)

I'm pissed Stanley is returning to Notre Dame because I thought he'd be the best fit.  Sambrailo will scare the crap out of fans because of this recent small school mantra going around.  TJ Clemmings only recently transitioned to tackle and he played RT at Pittsburgh.  It sounds like J. Poutasi projects as a guard and Ogbuehi could be good but that torn ACL is a bummer.  I'm assuming Scherff, Collins, and Peat will be gone...I don't see how 3 tackles don't get picked before 25 but crazier things have happened.

Ereck Flowers is interesting but I don't know much about him quite yet.

So looking at this class, I think it's highly likely a projected LT will not be at the top of our board at 25 but it is very early.  We're looking at Flowers, Fisher, and Sambrailo from my perspective and there could be much better talent at other positions come 25.

Whatsayyou?

I'm pretty sure I mocoed fisher to us in round 3. Definitely don't want him at 25.ogbuehi would be an interesting pick as well. Gotta grab him if he last till the third.

I agree he's not quite 1st round material.  Even though it's a huge need, I think expectations for the position should be tempered in the first two rounds given the likely talent available.

Agree completely. It's extremely unlikely any of them are BPA at 25 and we also having pressing needs at WR as well as other positions.

Ereck Flowers is the best OT in this class.

At first, it looked like we had a chance at him with pick25. Now, with Ogbuehi ACL and Stanley returning to school our chances are slim. If Andrus Peat choose to return too I'd be damn PO.

Imo, Clemmings is a LT.

Have not seen a single snap or video cut ups of Sambrailo so I have no clue.

Cam Erving has experience at LT. Loved him last season, not so much this year. However he can play probably all five positions of the line.

I definitely think Erving could be what we wanted to make Chandler.  And all around O-lineman.  That would be a very strong addition in R2.  I think he could play LT but he's the type who would need to start out at RT or OG for a bit.

    • frank, that ball was very catchable where it hit his hands. I don't even think he bent at waist until after he dropped it. He actually slows his pace to position himself to catch the ball. That will never be a pass I'd blame on the QB.   NFL+ _ Live Games on mobile, NFL RedZone, NFL Network and More! - Google Chrome 2026-01-15 13-54-54.mp4
    • https://overthecap.com/position/left-guard   Lewis is the 9th highest paid Left Guard in the league. I bet it was higher when the deal was done two years ago.    https://overthecap.com/position/right-guard Hunt #3 highest Right Guard   There is a tab in the upper left portion of the graphic that allows looking at the different positions.
    • It was a great play, but a better catch than throw. The TE boxes out Moehrig for position. Jumps to catch the ball. Catches it and turns 180 degrees while he's still in the air. Comes down and toe taps to stay in bounds and lunges for the goal post. That first part where he boxes out Moehrig for the ball is huge. If he doesn't do that and simply fades back to catch the ball (this is why Bryce doesn't trust XL), then Moehrig likely undercuts the pass for a break up or INT. Stafford trusts his receivers to make plays for him. Here I slowed it down so you can see it. Great play but amazing catch and score by the TE.  NFL+ _ Live Games on mobile, NFL RedZone, NFL Network and More! - Google Chrome 2026-01-15 13-45-32.mp4 NFL+ _ Live Games on mobile, NFL RedZone, NFL Network and More! - Google Chrome 2026-01-15 13-44-37.mp4
