Formula to the Championship

I think superbowls are won in the trenches you need a great o line and d line. well that's my 2 cents

I agree but it's interesting because both Seattle and New Englands o-line AND d-line were middle of the league... New England's o-line played at an elite level these playoffs and Seattle's actually played pretty well too for the most part but really none of those 4 units were all that great. Just interesting. Basically shows there's no one "formula" for a championship. The Giants won their 2 because of their d-line, yet New England just won this because of their secondary, scheme on offense and offensive weapons. Not their lines.

Hence, why I said playoffs. I know he played an insignicant role yesterday. Brady was to busy slicing up the "elite" backfield. But make no mistake, lynch delivered the win on a silver platter. Somebody just flipped his tray as the team was fixing to eat

Well the outcome is over. The Patriots made the stop and got the interception. The defensive line didn't get to Wilson. Butler knew it was a pick play coming and he read his key and got the pick.

This is the only reason the Giants didn't have to have a elite secondary to win. They had D linemans coming out of the ying to get after Brady. Unless Gettleman is going to build the Panthers like that he can't afford to let Hardy walk. He is also going to have to bring in more Defensive lineman who can rush the passer.

There are more Hardy's out there! And he will absolutely build the Panthers that way, have you forgotten? We won games when we had a pass rush and run game!

That's the key that unlocks the winners door! Pass Rush and Run Game

Yep! But you can't model the Panthers after the Patriots. Cam is good in his own way, but Brady-esque he will never be

With that said, what will the formula be for the Panthers to reach the promise land? Dave Gettleman always says keep your strengths strong. The only strengths we have on our team is the LB corp, RB corp, and possibly the DLine who struggle when Hardy was gone.

Hardy is history as a Panther but this year's draft should be interesting to see how Gettleman, Rivera and McDermott plan on winning on the Defensive side.

Not that the Offensive side doesn't need help!

I agree but Greg Hardy is Greg Hardy. The closes player on the market as far as potential is JPP. Remember Gettleman said we aren't going to Tiffanys. So that means we have to go to Walmart or Target and find that production. That's going to be a issue if you ask me. They better hope Kony Ealy can develop into that player which I think he can do. But he is not going to be on that level by the time next season rolls around I can bet.

Pats success on offense is due to the speed they have on offense.   Can't count how many times I've seen Brady do a quick 1  yard pass to Julian Edleman....and before a defense can even react,  Julian gains 10+ yards.

Makes me wish we had speed like that,  that Shula could actually utilize properly.

You re-stock/upgrade the DLine, cut Dwill and get a fresh set to pair with Stewart(someone on Stewart level or higher), do whatever possible to improve the OLine without mortgaging the future, bring in some talent on WR and TE#2 role. Bring in some competition for Philly Brown at returner and snag some special team aces. If opportunity arises, bring in a competent CB that can play the slot well and pursue an improvement at SS

Derrick Morgan could be an 8+ sack artist next to Star, KK, and CJ. He is also getting better like Hardy. We made it through this past year without Hardy and made the playoffs. Imagine if we plugged his spot with experience, holy cow

Truthfully, one of the best opportunities we have for improvement right now in this FA market is upgrading our DT depth with younger and more talented players than Cole and Edwards!

If Dave has another draft like the past 2 years with 7 picks, pretty safe to say we will gets at least three more solid players in May. Perhaps a couple solid UDFA.

I liked Derrick Morgan coming out of Georgia Tech. Former first round pick but the question would be why he didn't pan out in Tennessee? I thought he had pretty good potential but he was just undersized in weight.

BJ Raji would be a start and he wouldn't break the bank.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
