So when looking at this whole draft class, I'm trying to wrap my head around where we may get talent in the FA and what value is going to be available in the mid-20s.

I'm being patient with any mocks this year (may wait a while longer) but was curious about who a realistic BPA (w/needs in mind) could be for us in the first.  Now I understand we've found strong secondary talent in later rounds but looking at these top-5 or so guys in each respective S, WR, OL, DL, and CB classes, Collins keeps jumping out to me.

I'm not a huge fan of many of these mid-shelf CBs in the FA this year (maybe Kareem Jackson) and the back of the drafts has a lot of slow slot or Tampa 2 types.  This Collins guy fits the measurables of a starting NFL CB and seems to have all the ability necessary to be effective day 1.  He seems to fit with our scheme as well.

Now if an almost given prospect drops to us, you take him but when just assessing our needs and thinking who really has the value, Collins stands out to me

Whatsayyou?

mixed reviews on Jalen:

National Football Post Dion Caputi @ nfldraftupdate 6h

LSU CB Jalen Collins had a great day... unofficially ran a 4.48 & then a 4.43. Very nice times; with his size, length, and upside, someone will fall in love.

MockingTheDraft.com Dan Kadar @ MockingTheDraft 12h

Jalen Collins runs 4.48. That’s a big number for him. 1st

round talent.

NFL.com Bucky Brooks @ BuckyBrooks 10h

"Cha-Ching!!!" Jalen Collins and Ron Darby are making

money with their performances today.

NFL.com Daniel Jeremiah @MoveTheSticks 10h

Jalen Collins is making a lot of $ today.

draftTV.com Shane P. Hallam @ ShanePHallam 10h

LSU's Jalen Collins looks so impressive in shorts. Makes you

want to fall in love. Huge and fluid. Wish it translated to

consistency

South Florida Sun-Sentinel Omar Kelly @ OmarKelly 5h

Watching the DB position drills and Jalen Collins ' hips are

tight. Saw it in his film & the combine confirms it. Not a good

look.

CBS Sports Dane Brugler @ dpbrugler 9h

#LSU CB Jalen Collins has a lot of size/athletic tools, but

he's a project. Instincts, awareness, technique, discipline - all

very, very raw

Scout with GM Jr Scouting Josh Liskiewitz @JoshLiskiewitz 8h

@dpbrugler you nailed all of Collins' areas of concern - instincts especially scary, hard to fix.

thefootballeducator.com R0n Plckett @ CoachRonScouts 7h

The CB Id like to draft is Kevin Johnson. Jalen Collins could

be good but needs some develop & I question his instincts at

times

profootballcentral.com Austin John @ Phinfanalyst Feb 18

I'm not that high on LSU CB, Jalen Collins . Yeah okay he has

size- but sloppy feet and stiff hips. Those traits don't often

translate.

    • I think people are harsh on him over the weightlifting a little bit but at the same time I don’t see any evidence that he has done anything.  I would think he should have been working on strengthening his base after watching how easy he goes down with any kind of contact. Like with a couple of fingers even.
    • I see the issues with Tyreek, which is why I put an asterisk on him and all the way on the bottom. I don't even see him playing at all this entire year since he hasn't even been seen working out at all. But I do not think he's as hard to play with as Stefon Diggs is IMO and Tyreek is more of a game changer. But either way, it's pie in the sky.  Always loved Keenan and he is from the Carolinas so that's really the only thing that may interest him playing here if no one is giving him any calls to play.
    • It's not that I'm not rooting for him to do well, but I'd be lying if I said him having a good season wouldn't scare me after what we've seen out of him so far. I'd be afraid of it just being one of those situations you see all the time, a player is in a make it or break it season, they somehow raise their level of play to new levels, and then proceed to immediately drop back off a cliff the next season (although this does usually happen in contract years, not a player trying to not get cut). Now, if you tell me that no matter how well he plays, we're then going to flip him for a draft pick in the offseason, then yea, I'd want him to go off for a monster season so we can get a better return.
