Any Mountain bikers?

It's a weird feeling.  excited to ride it but a little guilty for bypassing the LBS.  I did go to one but they really tried to rip me off.  Here is what I'm looking forward to putting together on monday;

Oh, and I'm not hardcore.  On the few occasions I've joined a race I always bring up the rear,  it is more an excuse to get out and ride all day.  And I hit a bunch of trail in CO last fall I had to bail and hike-a-bike.  But I'm hooked anyway.

I have a question about that - I notice a lot of seat posts on mountain bikes in general are very extended like this one - I thought that if the frame of the bike is sized appropriately then the seat post should not be extended as far ?  In other words is someone with seat post extended this far riding too small of a bike frame size?

I haven't mountain biked outside of Colorado, Moab, and the Tucson area. Nothing but rocks...

How are the NC trails in comparison?

More roots instead of rock, less sand.  climbs and descents are shorter.  Each trail is different though.  Kerr Scott is pure flow with good speed, Pisgah is climbs, Dupont has some exposed granite similar to Moab.

I haven't been to Moab in 10 years and itching to go back and hit Fruita this time also.  I rode Buffalo Creek in CO last fall and thought it was pretty mediocre until I got to the top and rode down the back side.  I haven't been to Tucson but rode a bit around the edges of Phoenix (Mesa).

Don't get me wrong, Carolina doesn't match the west for quality of rides.  But it is pretty much the best place to be on the east coast (imo)

I noticed it looked odd also.  I just grabbed this image from google.  But I think it is more of an optical illusion on this frame as the geometry of the frame on the top is well sloped.

I lot of higher end bikes come with dropper posts where you hit a button on the handles right before a descent and the seat drops and then hit another button to return.  But when I ride I don't like to think so I hated it.

to answer the question though it does look high.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
