Questions about FA, Teams, and Taxes

Since several states have no income taxes like FL, TN and Texas for example, I have several thoughts and questions.

 

Would TB, Miami, Jax, Dallas, Houston not be at a significant advantage in resigning their own players and FA's than the teams in CA for instance, where the state income tax is 13.3%.  The obvious answer is yes since an $8 million per year WR contract in Oakland or SF is worth less than a $7 million per year contract in the aforementioned states.

 

This brings up several questions.

 

Why did the Dolphins offer sooooo much for Suh?

Do agents get paid based on the income taxes of the states where they get their clients contracts?

Why would any team want to go to Los Angeles if this is going to be a constant battle

Do I understand more why the Raiders always overpay?

 

It seems the majority of state income taxes range from the 4-6% range, but still better than the 13.3% in CA.

 

I might have this all wrong, if so, just have a mod delete the whole thing as I am on my way to FL

Do agents get paid based on the income taxes of the states where they get their clients contracts? No, they make a % of a players income.

 

Why would any team want to go to Los Angeles if this is going to be a constant battle.  Tons of money, like tons.  Easy to sell box seats and merchandise.

 

Do I understand more why the Raiders always overpay? Because every FA knows that they are going only for the money, not to try to win games.  They have to overpay.  This may change is Mack and Carr are legit, and they get a decent GM in there.

      Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.

      As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.

      Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
