Is this real? (Trading Newton)

I don't hate Cam I simply can't stand that people here seem to think he has arrived... He hadn't begun to touch his potential and he won't until he becomes more consistent with his mechanics.

No one is saying he's arrived. He's a great young qb. I'm just not selling him short like you. He has issues no doubt about that.

I don't claim that you hate him. However, you are using some rather flawed logic to arrive to some of these conclusions.

He's heading into his 5th season, of course things are a work in progress.

There are many factors for the mechanics, injuries play a substantial part. I expect that we should see a clear improvement on that with him having a full offseason to get healthy and work on things, and especially get some continuity with his WR's.

Even the current top quarterbacks still experience issues with mechanics. Look at Rodgers against Seattle in the NFC championship game. Do you think one game defines his career? He's certainly a much better player than that performance, but it happens.

I think the Cam Newton that we saw to start the season before the injuries, and before the OL began to fall apart, is the QB that he is more than capable of becoming. We just need to keep upgrading on both sides of the ball, that's simply all there is to it.

We've put a lot of resources into the defense, and at times last year it was pretty bad. It's time to invest some in the offense. To be clear, when I say "invest", I'm not referring to blowing money in FA, but smart building through the draft, which we have lacked.

It takes a complete roster to accomplish that. It's not just on one player.

That Super Bowl was one of the most dominant defensive performances I've seen. Then on the flip side, it was one of the most pitiful offensive performances by the Denver offense. They may as well have not even shown up for the game at all with that showing.

When was the last time you saw the Seattle defense getting blown out in one game, let alone 6 out of 10 in a single season? We are still building our team, if we want to get to where Seattle is, we need to keep upgrading our offense along with the defense.

I agree. But it is worth noting that if you go back and look at Seattle's 3 year run, more often than not their defense is highly suspect in clutch situations.

Seattle's defense is not nearly as clutch as they are overall good.

The whole reason why their offense needed to score a TD on that last drive in the SB was because their defense blew a 10 point 4th Quarter lead (14 second half lead), and there are other examples of their defense generally blowing games to good offenses.

    • How about 2 legit good games in a row? I still think his post season benching is romanticized and overstated…. I mean his turnaround was amazing.  But that had more to do with how bad he was than how good he actually became.
    • BY needs to be more consistent and continue to make big plays in big moments. Like take over a couple of series a game, particularly at the end. If he can't become that, then they should be looking for his replacement.  You can not blame a QB for losses with the worst oline/receiver/coaching combination this team has ever had - in his rookie season at that. And then a below average receiving group to go with the worst defense in NFL history his second season. I don't understand. QBs aren't one man teams. It takes a team to win games. 11 on offense, 11 on defense, 11 on special teams, an OC, a DC and a HC. Let's have more than one play of 25+ yards of YAC in a season before condemning the QB for not breaking 300 yards passing a game. Perfectly acceptable to have high expectations but let's not be completely unrealistic.
    • He’s not a safety in reality. Doesn’t do anything besides ST, but is very good at that. With how awful we’ve been there past few years just find room for him somewhere and do it
