Ron Rivera - WFNZ audio - "Is Shula better?"

Asked about his commercials and that he loved the one with the dryer, but his wife always knows and Ron agreed.

[...]  It's a good listen. Should check it out.

Thanks SO much for posting the summary.  I had to run out the door for a few hours just after I posted the link here.  Very glad others have found it a good listen.

I loved that they talked about the dryer commercial as well as football.  Too cool.  Ron seems like such a serious straight-laced guy much of the time, it's fun to see his ability to make fun of himself and enjoy humor.

"nothing has really changed since years past."

"More that they are playing to Cams strengths"

Am I missing something or is that not a change?

It might be a change from what Chud did which was to script everything and give Cam little say to what Shula does which is let Cam run the offense.

The process as they like to say  takes time and we have refined the offense and added some weapons which is beginning to pay off. As the quarterback  goes so goes the offense. What else would you expect from an ex-quarterback.

He hasn't improved, we've played some of the NFL's worst defenses, and I'm sure the Saints will be the worst in NFL history again.

He calls the same shitty plays. If you need to see how stupid his play calling is, look at how he called 2 play action passes with 15 seconds left when we needed to score. Like anyone would buy we'd actually be running up the gut in that situation and play action did anything more than make the play slower to develop.

Agree, I'm not crowning Mike just yet. He is still a frustrating play caller.  Cam Newton is carrying this offense and the OC.

A few more points about the audio:

About 6:15 - 7:30 in Ron talks about the Tampa game, the impact of our good field position on our low yardage, how quickly we were scoring, meaning Tampa's offense got back on the field to rack up yards, also our playing younger guys on defense in the 4th qtr making it look "uglier" than it was...

Love at 9:00 - 9:45 Ron talking about Josh Norman, and all the extra work he's putting in, Ron giving him a lot of credit and talking about him being a role model to younger players.  Not something we would have necessarily expected to hear Ron say 2 years ago!  Josh - a role model!  Nice.

11:00 - 12:00 the New Orleans game and defensive adjustments - the importance of the defense really knowing the scheme and being able to adjust quickly.

12:00 - 14:00  Talks about Delaire - the process of acquiring him, and what Rivera saw and likes....

...Hes thrown some nice wrinkles in the offence but he seems to miss the feel of the moment or urgency of the situation...doesnt take the right gamble and plays it vanilla....Cams maturity is definitely carrying us regardless of the competition...
