Jared Allen officially listed as doubtful for NFC Championship Game.

NFL needs to allow an increased game day active list during the playoffs.  Increase it to 50 - or heck - all 53.

It makes sense in the playoffs - no team (nor the NFL) wants to get knocked out because of an early game injury when you have a healthy sub sitting on the bench in warmups.  This is my concern with Allen - "wasting" his game-day spot just to see him further injure the foot early on.

Of course because I also selfishly want to have access to Allen, Horton, Delaire, Bersin, and CAP.

Good article at ESPN re: Allen's play of late - the pressures he's been getting - and how Carolina might replace him if he's unable to play:

The pressure Allen created will be missed: The NFL’s active sack leader with 136 hasn’t taken down a quarterback since Carolina beat Indianapolis on Nov. 2. He has only two sacks all season. But the pressure Allen has created, particularly lately, has been huge. His two best games as a Panther were his last two. Allen had seven quarterback pressures (three hits, four hurries) in Sunday’s 31-24 victory over Seattle to earn a plus-3.6 grade from Pro Football Focus. He had a plus-4.7 grade in the regular-season finale against Tampa Bay with three quarterback hurries and a season-high four tackles. He’s been driven by the opportunity to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in his career. He played the last two series against Seattle with the injury. You can’t help but miss that kind of intensity and energy.

Who will start? That should be Kony Ealy. The second-year player out of Missouri started nine games this season, but went to a backup role after left end Charles Johnson returned from a hamstring injury. Ealy can be quite effective when on his game. He had a midseason stretch of five consecutive games with one sack. He also can be inconsistent at times, particularly with containment. But Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer isn’t known for getting outside the pocket and making huge plays the way Russell Wilson is, so that shouldn’t be a huge issue.

...

Where will the pressure come from? Green Bay did a good job of pressuring Carson Palmer, collecting three sacks and forcing two interceptions. Two of the sacks came from the tackles. Carolina’s best pass-rusher this season has been defensive tackle Kawann Short, who had 11 sacks during the regular season. Officially, Short had a sack and three quarterback hurries against Seattle. According to PFF, he had seven pressures, including four hurries, for a plus-5.1 grade. Dwan Edwards, a part of the four-man rotation at tackle, also had a sack and three hurries. But the push Carolina gets from Short and Star Lotulelei inside could make it difficult for Palmer to step up in the pocket and make clean throws.
