NFC South Rivals - Rookie Minicamps

I knew some teams were starting rookie minicamps this weekend, so since we still have a week to wait, I decided to see what our rivals are up to.

Falcons rookie minicamp started today:

http://www.atlantafalcons.com/news/blog/article-1/Hooper-Neal-Shine-in-Day-1-of-Rookie-Minicamp/071ddf27-f364-4ed1-ab1a-753de226f26c

They have 6 draft picks & 22 UDFAs, plus some other tryout players.

Hooper and Neal seem to be generating the most excitement.

Bucs rookie minicamp starts tomorrow I believe:

http://www.bucsnation.com/2016/5/6/11611552/buccaneers-rookie-mini-camp-roster-includes-21-tryout-players

They've basically brought in almost a full 53 man roster!!!!  Wow.

7 draft picks

19 UDFAs

and 25 tryout players

I don't follow sites of other NFC South teams regularly, so there may be other sites for news.  Just wanted to let people know their minicamps are starting if folks want to check out how our division competition is doing in the offseason.

Saints don't start rookie minicamp until May 13.

Falcons have signed some tryout players / waived UDFAs following their rookie minicamp:

http://www.atlantafalcons.com/news/blog/article-1/Falcons-Sign-3-Tryout-Players-Waive-4-CFAs/a324e49b-7d29-4ec2-9ebd-6c6fa0d5e685

http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2016/5/7/11617348/falcons-waive-four-players-and-sign-three-another-signing-looming

Signed:  (the notes are from the falcoholic link)

wide receiver David Glidden from Oklahoma State, who stands just 5'8" but was productive in college;

Shabaz Ahmed was a 12 game starter at guard for Temple in 2015;

Brandon Williams was a very productive defensive end for Southern Illinois.

Waived:

defensive tackle Gerald Dixon Jr.,

offensive lineman Alex Fifita,

wide receiver Malachi Jones, and

wide receiver David Richards.

Atlanta's now down to 88 players, by our math, which may mean another signing or two is on the horizon. The Falcons recently hosted former Bengals cornerback Leon Hall and have been connected to former Patriots defensive tackle Dominique Easley, as well.

Interesting that the Bucs are maybe thinking of playing NC Central CB Ryan Smith at Safety....

They're reportedly looking for "versatile players"  (Hmmm... sounds familiar.  They did say they want to model themselves after the Panthers...)

Interesting snippet in a Falcoholic blog entry about a change Dan Quinn has made in the Falcons' locker room.  Not sure if this was done last season, or is new this season:

Another thing Dan Quinn consistently preaches is the bond he wants to see between players. That's why the team rearranged the locker room, mixing up position groups and making things more open to encourage interaction across the entire roster. Quinn wants these players to be brothers, and he wants everyone to play for the man next to him.
