America's Team

I'm sure that the majority of us Huddlers share the same distaste for the Dallas Cowboys. Their fanbase seems to be one of the least football knowledgeable that I have come across, they get hyped-up as a Super Bowl contender year in and year out, and they get exhaustive media coverage.

I used to attribute my dislike for them as pure haterism. Like the way I hate the guy sitting in traffic next to me driving an AMG Benz. I now genuinely believe I dislike the team and the franchise for the same reason I dislike Paris Hilton or the Kardashian tribe.

Neither has done anything to deserve to be where they are. They are pretty much famous for being famous.

Now don't get me wrong. I understand that the Cowboys have won 5 Championships in the Super Bowl era, but coincidentally have not done a whole lot of anything since the NFL adopted the salary cap to increase competition between all NFL teams, outside of a '95 championship the year after the salary cap was introduced.

I recently found out that it was Bob Ryan, V.P. of NFL Films in 1979 that coined the phrase for a 1978 Cowboys highlight film. So the title that the Cowboys and their fans so proudly boast was plucked out of thin air for a highlight film by a guy in a suit. This makes it no more relevant than say, "The Cardiac Cats".

People also like to note that the Cowboys are tops in merchandise sales every year. While this is true, I like to think that this is mostly attributed to the teams lust for marquee players, not talent or fan dedication. This year, Brett Favre's purple Vikings jersey tops the sales charts, followed closely by the Michael Vick Eagles jersey.

That being said, it is no wonder why they get all of the official's calls on nationally televised games. In the eyes of the NFL (much like with the NY Yankees and MLB), they figure f the Cowboy's do well, it means more money for the NFL. The Cowboys are a cash-cow, and I firmly believe the NFL will do most everything in their power to try and make them an elite team.

This thread is basically my rant as to why I hate the over-hyped Dallas Cowboys with a passion, and hope to God that we can out-play them and the officials and pull out a victory on Monday night.

America's Team? I don't think so. Watch out for the Cardiac Cats. Panthers win 27-24.

    • Picks: Nos. 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 I'm extremely excited for the Panthers' 2026 draft. How could you not be? After two straight offseasons of aggressive defensive spending, coordinator Ejiro Evero's unit looks ready to make the leap. Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloydfill out two of the biggest gaps on the roster, though the Panthers should not be discounted from drafting a top edge rusher early. Phillips is a major injury risk and not a sack artist, so he doesn't fully solve the Panthers' 5.3% sack rate from last season (27th in the league). The Panthers might be the Akheem Mesidor(Miami) team, as they need his production immediately. The Panthers are also often tagged as the Kenyon Sadiq team, which is very possible. No one among Tommy Tremble, Ja'Tavion Sanders and Mitchell Evans has played his way into an unquestioned starting role. But the Panthers do have three tight ends on the roster, two of whom are on rookie contracts. Sadiq would fit nicely in Dave Canales' offense, which has a dynamic screen game and schemes up targets well. But I'd like to see an accompanying move to make room at the position for Sadiq's snaps to love the pick. There's much more room at wide receiver, where a second three-level option to run besides Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan could really bust open this offense. I could see an early pick spent in the secondary, which might come as a surprise to some. Slot corner Chau Smith-Wade has been fine but could be improved upon if an elite nickel option is available at No. 51 (think D'Angelo Ponds from Indiana or Keionte Scottfrom Miami). Depth behind the outside corners is also quite thin, and Mike Jackson (29 years old) is in a contract year, so a player with inside-out versatility would have even more value. Clemson's Avieon Terrell, anyone? The Panthers can also buttress the slot by drafting a safety with good man coverage traits to play opposite Tre'von Moehrig, as neither Lathan Ransom nor Nick Scott has emphatically secured that role. Treydan Stukes(Arizona) is another option who would make a lot of sense at No. 51. Bottom line: Wide receiver, pass rusher and defensive back are the big needs. Attack them aggressively -- this is the end of Bryce Young's rookie contract, so it's time to push
