So much for extra practice

this news sounds good to me. I hope they don't practice for the next two weeks, work out, and eat lots of carbs. If that happens maybe my Redskins will have a shot at winning. Then again maybe not with the way they have been playing. This may be a stinker folks.

In terms of practice, what can be achieved in 5 days, that was not achieved in the entire training camp and pre-season period?

Most of these guys are running on 0 confidence, drilling them often has reverse consequences as the players get the impression that coaches blame them.

Sometimes, not every time, giving a small break to those with no confidence allows them to return re-engerised and determined to prove something.

Then again sometimes it breeds no motivation. It's a fine balance.

Good God....this fanbase is worse than the Lions or Saints have EVER been.

I know the team is not playing well and we all are upset with that. But the people who are constantly bashing everything about this organization have gone over the top. We have resorted to posting insults about everyone and everythin. We are making fun of this team the way the rest of the league made fun of the Bucs, Saints, and Lions of old. Be frustrated and discuss what is and could be happening.....kill the juevenile insults.

This is not how we want the rest of the league to judge the Panther fanbase.

if we had at least one win it might not be this way madHatter. i for one only have a problem with all the shortened workouts. can we really look back and say that shortening mini camp and training camp was the right thing to do?

I agree with what you are saying. We all are questioning alot of things that have and have not been done. My only point was that we sound bad....as bad as the fanbases that have been the butt of the jokes in the NFL.

Good grief. Fox has shortened mini camp almost every year, before winning seasons and before losing seasons, and just because they left TC early does not mean they stopped practicing. They were just seeping in their own beds and practicing on different fields, that's all.

Hell, six weeks ago, people were wondering if Fox was working them too hard because players were getting hurt in TC.

And as a couple of us have already pointed out, there is no rule that says the players can't come in to lift and study on their own, which I'm sure Fox has encouraged them to do, since he can't make them do it.

Maybe the Panthers will turn it around this year, and maybe they won't...either way, this bye week will have little or nothing to do with it. Stop overreacting.

Overreacting you say? am I the one starting all the Fire Fox/Hurney, Julius is a joke, etc. threads. NO

my thought is though that the more a team practices together, the better they play together. if they come out flat after the bye the same way they did last year I won't be surprised either. this is just being realistic...not pessimistic.

Its okay, before the players left they all swore to play a lot of madden.

Seriously, would have been a good time for Fox to go back to basics and teach fundamentals like tackling and blocking techniques. A couple of years ago NCSU had a bye week during middle of their season which was sucking. The coach Tom O'brien took time during the open week to go back to basics of football. The team went on a winning streak and played better in the second half of their season. I think the entire defense could take few days in shorts walking through Meeks new system.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
