The Panthers pulled the contract offer to undrafted Washington State nose tackle Robert Barber pending the result of his court case, his agent told "The Seattle Times." Barber was charged with second-degree felony assault in February after allegedly punching a WSU student at a party in July. He pleaded not-guilty at his arraignment and a motion to dismiss the case will be heard in court on Wednesday. "The Panthers did not want to move forward until [the case] was settled,'' Barber's agent, Anthony Bendara, told The Times in a text message.

With this guy being an NFL hopefully, how has he not already plead himself out of this? Take whatever deal is on the table and get it behind you. He's probably not getting a shot until this gets resolved. The video is pretty cut and dry. He's not getting anywhere taking it to trial.

I assume that there is something his lawyers have that makes trial a feasible option. It is also possible that the DA want's to make an example of him (which wouldn't surprise me considering the locale) and hasn't offered a plea deal. A high profile individual, caught on tape, and a DA who wants to create a persona for a run for office....that makes too much sense.
