For Sale

You guys talk about Sabates and Smith as though they are the east coast version of Al Davis. What gives? Why the animosity?

I would bet a good bit of it stems from the fact that Sabates wants to throw the  current PSL s at BOA stadium into the garbage,  if he gets his wish and buys the team and he and the new owners get the new stadium they want.

Mr Scot...if you really believe that there are no back channel conversations going on regarding the sale of the team, then it is you, my friend, that doesn’t understand how business works.

Sure, kid.

"I have sources" gets you no credibility when you can't back it up.

Nice attempt at an attention grab, buuuuut no.

Mhm...lots of talk about the sale of the club...sorry to troll, but you’re out of your element, Donnie.

But not talk that fits your narrative, Sanjay.

Just pie the man...narrative confirmed

There's nothing "back channel" about Sabates and Smith discussing going in together on a bid. Anybody can do that.

It would only be back channel if Jerry Richardson were shown to be giving them an inside track, and there's nothing to indicate that's true.

If they do end up working together, then Sabates and Smith will put in their bid, others will put in theirs and somebody will win.

That's just the normal process.

Tidbit from the Sabates article...

So if it's Jeff Gordon, do all the Dale Earnhardt fans get pissed?

The more I hear the more this sounds like a bunch of super rich but not “buy a NFL team” rich guys sitting around dreaming. They aren’t far off I bet but it’s all blustering and steam.  Jeff and Dale could stoke a 50m check but I really don’t think Sabates could. These kinds of groups are all talk. I’ll be interested once they actually put in a LOI and begun being vetted.

Pretty much need to see who is in the bidding.  Richardson doesn't need to take the highest bidder. He can choose anyone he wants.  Also 50m isn't even 5% ownership.

Sabates hasn't identified everybody, but the ones he has identified to date don't really fit the "heavy hitter" description he used when he first started this.

Obviously, the majority owner is gonna be somebody that we don't know about yet.

Since he's mentioned that a couple of the minority owners are in on this, one of them would be a logical guess. But I do find myself wondering if there's a "man behind the curtain".

The heavy hitter is most likely one of the following. Brian France, Bruton/Marcus Smith or Rick Hendrick.

Smith and France have both been rumored. You're thinking Hendrick?

Possible. He is a billionaire but I think just barely. If I had to pick one of the three it would be Marcus/Bruton.

Matter of fact what Felix is saying now is what Bruton did with Concord. Threatened to move the Speedway to Rowan County to get Concord to pony up money for refurbishment to the old speedway.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
