Panthers Need A New Head Coach

All good bad things should come to an end,in this case it is John Fox and his tenture as the Panthers head coach.

Maybe firing Fox in mid season would be a good idea. This way, some coach sitting around looking for a job could come in and let the existing coaching staff take on more responsibility for game planning. This way, we find out which of the remaining coaches we keep next year based on their performance for the rest of this season.

I don't think that firing Fox now will make the difference in whether we make the playoffs or not this year, but if we are going to make the playoffs in the future, he has to go.

Dan Henning was one of brighter OC's in the NFL and a very creative play caller. Here in Carolina, we nearly ran him out of town covered in tar and feathers. He goes to Miami and all of a sudden he is a genius again. We nearly strung up Trgovac on the tallest yardarm available because of what he did with Del Rio's defense. Henning was replaced by Davidson, who really was underqualified to be an OC. Trgovac was replaced by Ron Meeks who was under constant attack by the Indy fans for his problems there. What does all of this mean? To me, it means that nothing will change until Fox is gone because he is the head man and the buck stops there.

Fox is a classic example of those who won't hire anybody smarter than himself because he sees it as a threat to his own way of doing things. Most good business leaders will make it a point of hiring top level subordinates as the best way to run a business.

History is always our best teacher and now that Trgovac, Del Rio, Scott O'Brien, and Henning are gone, I cannot help but wonder if the reason that some of these guys are gone is because they wanted to do things differently than Fox wanted them done. For Trgo to just up and leave pretty late in the summer to take a demotion was a big red flag to me that maybe it wasn't just Trgovac. Meeks was weak in Indy as many people have stated, but it is easy to look decent when you have Peyton Manning running the offense.

Nice write up, but seriously another thread about this? ;)

I feel sure this subject has been brought up numerous times,but some topics bear repeating. Will this change the situation,probably not,but it helps spread the word that fans are feed up with the present inept operations of the Panthers.

      Here's the thing. You compared him to Jake. Jake was signed to the practice squad out of college. Bryce was the number 1 overall. Their expectations are wildly different and so are their contracts. You can talk all you want about what a player is and where they are now and all this other mumbo jumbo, but Jake never had a 5th year option and we weren't talking about the possibility of a top 5 QB contract extension at the end of his 3rd year. What he was expected to be matters because we invested heavily at a cost of future capital, including a 2nd round pick this year, for him to be that guy. The cost to add Bryce took value from the team. To be worth it, he has to add that value back.  Actually, I don't prefer yards, TDs, or only INTs. All those stats by themselves are misleading which is why I said you have to use a lot of different stats. ADOT - Average depth of target.  Completion %. Pretty obvious until you factor in ADOT. 0-5 has a lot higher C% than 10-15%. Hang time. If a pass is in the air for 4.6 seconds vs 3.1 on a 40 yards throw, that gives a DB a lot of time to correct. Is it a loft or is it a laser.  EPA - Expected points added. A way of measuring QB efficiency on every play.  CPOE - ranking pass completions based on several factors, not just the throw.  There's obviously more, but those are the more common.  Typical stats don't show everything. You need to look all over. Looking at a stat line is lazy. That's why I said, you need to analyze everything. Once you start looking at the numbers you start looking at the player. That's why you follow numbers. They lead you places. You look at what happening when the numbers show you patterns. That's where you start finding the problems that yards, TDs and Ints won't show you.

      Thank you. I don't understand how the Bryce stans don't see this. I've never seen a player get more hyped for doing so little. Honestly it's driving me a little insane.
