Cool water next to Carolinas coast...expected it to slow windspeeds a bit

but all you folks who think this is gonna be just a bad tropical storm are in for a surprise....this is a 110mph hurricane with brutal winds out over 190 miles...and it is moving slowly

gonna be catastrophic flooding down east and very widespread

It'll be bad flooding down there, because it's going to sit there. Up here in Raleigh/Durham it's not going to be much of anything. The power was out, and the destruction up here was pretty bad for Fran. To say are in for a surprise would be wrong. I was 12 years old and had to go through Fran, and Floyd. I think I would know. I lived in Brunswick County when both hit for fugs sake.

The flooding was what defined Katrina....hope this one doesn’t do the same to us

Comparing the Katrina flooding to this is no comparison.  Apples to oranges

Nola is built below the water, the storm surge of that massive storm destroyed the levees and let the river flow into the city

This is more like a Harvey.  Harvey did the same.  Harvey was a strong Cat 3 when it hit Corpus.  But we all know it for what it did to Houston.

It went back out and just sat om Houston as a tropical storm for a few days

NOLA flooding isn't what you'll see. NOLA got the publicity during Katrina, but the MS coastline got hit hard. The storm surge whiped out miles of coast. I think that's more what the concern should be, but hopefully the weakened trend continues.

I wouldn't expect the storm to get stronger just because it's about to make landfall. That's not how it works lol. There are cycles, because storms can't maintain that strength for long periods. There's a reason major hurricane landfall is somewhat rare.

Correct.

And thats why to be honest.  Other than the costal areas there isnt anything to really worry much, just a avg rain storm

The coastal areas though.  Remember how flooded Houston was? It was just a tropical storm when it hit there and sat.  This is going ti hit as a weak 2 and going to sit.  So id be real worried Wilmington through mrytle beach.

100 MPH hurricane isn't an average rainstorm. This thing is still huge and will be pushing a lot of water with it.

Yeah, Harvey and Katrina just hit the right cities man. I think North Carolina is more prepared for Hurricanes than Houston & New Orleans.

Your not going to be getting 100 mph winds in the center of the state  from a cat 2 storm.

My guess youll get the big winds 50-60 miles from the center.  And those winds are going to weaken to 90mph as soon as it hits land

I was in Wilmington for Fran and Bertha...in CLT now

possible the wind may not be as bad up your way because of the southern trajectory but here we may get 50mph winds and 7-8 inches of rain

worried about losing power, cable for game Sunday

Yeah, you guys thought you were in the clear on Monday. Now, not so much. But yeah, I always forget about Bertha. I went through that one too. Hugo torched you fugers in 89 as well. When it hit Charleston then went up through Charlotte.
