WHO TO ROOT FOR THIS SUNDAY TO ASSURE THE BEST DRAFT PICK POSSIBLE (PANTHERS HAVE A .484 Strength of Schedule entering week 17):

Detroit to beat Green Bay (Detroit goes to 6-10 and has a strength of schedule, SOS, of .509 entering week 17).  Detroit @ Green Bay - 8.

NY Giants to beat Dallas (Giants have a .520 SOS entering week 17).  Dallas @ NY -6. (NY IS FAVORED)

Buffalo to beat Miami (Buffalo has a .529 SOS entering week 17).  Miami +5 @ Buffalo (BUFFALO IS FAVORED)

Tampa Bay to beat Atlanta (Tampa Bay has a .529 SOS; Atlanta has a .500 SOS) Atlanta -2.5 @ Tampa Bay (If the Panthers lose with a .484 SOS, it would create a three-way tie and the Panthers are likely to pick before both TB and ATL.

Jacksonville to beat Houston (Jags have a .536 SOS entering week 17) Jacksonville +7 @ Houston.

New Orleans to beat Carolina (Panthers have a .484 SOS—one of the lowest in the NFL entering week 17) Carolina +7 @ New Orleans

Cincinnati to beat Pittsburgh (Bengals have a .531 SOS entering week 17) Cincinnati +13.5 @ Pittsburgh. If both Cincy and Carolina lose, Carolina picks ahead of Cincy)

Well god knows we’ll do our part

If we lose I see us dropping to about 7.   If we win, it could be in the teens.  Think about it--Payton is a cheater--he knows we could lose 6 spots by winning...He has nothing to gain.

And, our coach is too elementary to think about the big picture.  I wouldn't be surprised with a win at all.

Your SOS will be busted from what you have. That’s only through week 16. We play what we hope is a 14-2 Saints which will jump up our SOS. I think real worst case could be pick #16 as the Falcons play 5-11 Tampa if they win. We’d be at the bottom of that list as GB would be 6-9-1.

I also think technically that #7 is our best scenario (if Jax pulls the upset, the other games should go that way). I think after tomorrow we’ll have a better SOS than Detroit and Atlanta (if the lose).

The SOS through week 16 is all we have--which is why I labeled it "Through week 16"/ I can tell you that the biggest change between week 15 and week 16 was about 12-13 poiints, fwiw.

Atlanta's SOS is higher than ours, so I do not see a way we could pick at 16--maybe 15.  Not sure about the SOS if Atlanta and Detroit lose--we shall see. Atlanta would have to gain 16 points.  Since the strength of schedule during week 17 involves more than the Saints, but all teams previously played (adding a win or a loss to the existing w-l record) so I do not think it is as simple as adding Tampa's record to ATL and NO's record to Carolina's SOS.  Never thought about it much, but the overall records of all opponents is factored at the end.

Hilarious

Hope you are right--Payton has vision. He does not want us getting Ferrell or Gary in the draft---if he loses, he is still the #1 seed.  We could see the worst football game in the history of the NFL.

    • Yep - honestly though, I thought his coverage was as good as you could possibly do on a man coverage crossing route with Dak having all day to throw. Dak made a perfect throw and if it wasn't in front of Pickens, it could have easily been picked off. Seemed like we ran more man than I have seen our defense run so far this year. Defense also did a great job of playing their gap/zone responsibilities (even if Dak did pick apart our zone a good chunk of the game) - that screen play on the last drive could easily have gone for a touchdown if Moehrig didn't play his zone and make a great tackle. Biggest complaint about Evero was not blitzing a few more times (especially when Dallas was in the red zone). The few times we did it, Dak didn't look comfortable.
    • There was some pretty egregious missed calls vs the Chiefs in the Lions game, especially Kelce. The completion where he clearly used the ground to catch the ball. The hold in front of the ref as Pacheco ran by where the defender was trying to turn around and couldnt because Kelce had him by the jersey. Mahomes openly taunting after scoring a TD. 0 penalties after double digit the week before. Cmon.
    • People get trade happy and look at resources as barter items. They fail to see them as resources to be used to our benefit rather than someone else's. Right now, Chuba and Rico are massive benefits to us and a strong rushing attack so greatly benefits any passer, much less a young one like Bryce still is.  And the better our running game, the more our offense can eat up the clock, the less time our defense is on the field. And that is priceless, too. Don't mess with the running game. Don't mess with the receivers. Maybe look at our O-line and think we may have hit on something good during these injuries. Look at our D-line and seem some strength evolving there. Our secondary has its good spots and some that are still developing. Our linebacking corps did well this last outing. Our special teams are on a major upswing as of this past week. Heck, even our QB is showing us a little something right now that we can build on. Perhaps putting out a yard sale sign right now might be less advantageous than looking at the team and saying, "You are all part of something good that is happening. We want to see that continue to grow."
