Keep Martin as the Starter and Move Godfrey to CB

After seeing his performance in two games, I think he needs to be the starter at safety and I have thought for awhile that Godfrey was better suited for CB. I think it could help him if we move him there, b/c as a safety he has been a liability.

Martin is a ballhawk and is usually in good position to make plays on the ball, whereas Godfrey seemed to be constantly lost and confused about his assignments. The CBs also seem to have confidence that Martin is going to be where he is supposed to be compared to Godfrey, and thus, they try to make more plays on the ball as well.

Martin did a great job yesterday, and I'm confident we would've continued to hold the Saints in check on defense had we not decided to put it in cruise control with our defensive playcalling.

Anyway, I think Martin has earned the spot and its his. Let Godfrey earn his, and I think his best chance to succeed could be as a CB, who knows, with enough time, he may end up a solid #2.

Martin deserves the starting job 100% but I'm not sure Godfrey would be an upgrade over our current starting CBs. I think he'd get destroyed in man-to-man coverage and he still wouldn't be able to tackle anyone. If we were in soft zone all the time like last year then maybe (still probably not) but for now I'd just keep him at safety.

    • There probably isn’t an orthopedic surgery that has had more improvement in technique and outcomes over the last two decades than the acl repair. Because of its importance in pro sports and the sheer number that surgeons do there have been lots of opportunities to practice 1. Better techniques - arthroscopic v open surgery means people heal faster  2. More training - all sports med surgeons have tons of experience doing them 3. better imaging - later generations of mri are more sensitive  4. better therapy - PTs have gotten better at rehabbing them and the theories of rehab have improved a lot. No idea about brooks in particular tho, but I’d describe that overall situation as “not great”
    • If Freeling or either of the Utah OTs dropped to 19 I'd be more than happy honestly. Our OT situation isn't great with an aging Moton at RT and a mess of a situation at LT if Walker goes down at any point in time.  What I'm expecting the Panthers to do is probably draft another weapon like Sadiq or KC Conception. That's been their track record in drafting R1 thus far. None of the defensive talent projected to be around 19 stands out to me. Unless they just want to draft a LB early (Rodriguez,  CJ Allen, Anthony Hill, Jake Gollday).
