The Canes captain was added to the NHL COVID-19 protocol list last night. Does not mean he has COVID, could likely a precaution. Expect NHL PPG leader Morgan Geekie (former Charlotte Checkers standout) to take his spot in the lineup. Hopefully Staal can come back quickly, but the Canes have solid depth and Detroit is not a top tier team.

Well that didn’t take long. Hopefully this is related to one of the criteria that ISN’T an actual positive test. Maybe he flew home to get checked out after the signs of pain/discomfort during Game 1 and now has to quarantine ?

Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to Geekie already getting ice time.
