Another solid add, Mello is a young player with tons of potential and is our first forward.

Mello will slot in as a U-22 initiative player. Depending on how the rest of roster is built, he will either be one of three U-22 initiative players or he could be the only one.

Below is a rough projection based off of Ramirez’s tendency to play a 4-3-3:

GK - Pablo Sisniega

LB - Christian Fuchs, Adam Armour

CB - Jan Sobocinski

CB - Guzman Corujo

RB - Jaylin Lindsey

CDM - Jordy Alcivar

CM - Sergio Ruiz

CM - Riley McGree, Brandt Bronico

LW -

RW -

CF - Vinicius Mello

Charlotte can add up to 19 more players.

I’ll also mention that though we can have up to 30 players on our roster, it’s highly unlikely that we see that number this year as each roster spot has a special designation. It takes a couple of years to build a 30 man roster.

For example:

Austin FC (2021) - 22 roster players

Miami (2020) - 23 roster players

Nashville (2020) - 27 roster players

It obviously takes time to build a roster but obtaining a players’ homegrown rights (Lindsey), signing a U22 (Mello), and potentially drafting a Generation Adidas player (Ousseni Bouda) is a good start.

    • After some of the calls last year probably won't see much of a drop off
    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48344034/nfl-begin-hiring-replacement-officials-given-state-negotiations-nfl-referees-association   Honestly fug these refs and their union. Resisting changes that would actually incentivize good performance and not seniority based systems. What a bunch of donkeys. Hope the replacements straight up take their jobs and never give them back. Sick of watching refs script games with no repercussions.
    • Donovan seems like highest risk to me. Lloyd and May have already established relationships with all these kids. There’s probably guys hitting the portal that they recruited from HS. And then there’s the possibility of transferring their own guys from their current teams. They’ve also been recruiting the HS kids for like the next 5 years already. Look at the Iowa coach who hit the ground running by transferring all his guys from his D2 program. Or going across sports to Cignetti transferring all his JMU guys year one then building off that to a national title year 2. Donovan is starting from square one having been in the NBA so long and he’s already 60. So you’re potentially punting year 1 for a guy you are just hoping to be a 10 year hire while you figure out how to actually develop your next home grown 20yr guy. That’s 1/10th of the time you have him, more or less at best. The hope would be that he would find some high level assistants who have been working the college recruiting trails already, but then are you giving up his ideal staff just to get a foothold in recruiting and transfers. Think Belichick year one was bad? Imagine how much worse it would be without Steve Belichicks transfer portal pulls. Hoping Mays or Lloyd are all they’re cracked up to be.
