Carolina #4 in takeaways!

Out of boredom I decided to check up on some stats to see where we're at in ints/fumbles. Turns out we're #4 with 30 total, 19 picks and 11 forced fumbles. Not bad at all, VERY impressed with the defense this year.

..UNFORTUNATELY, we're also #4 in giveaways with 31 lol :[

Yeah, I assumed we were pretty high in takeaways. At first I didn't like the way the defense was playing, but Meeks has definitely turned it around as of late. I guess it just had to do with players getting acclimated to the new system. Also, I noticed a huge boost in the defense when Chris Harris returned.

we were #1 in turnovers, but we havn't had many since moore got the starting job

If not for Jake's INT's, we'd easily be atleast the #5 playoff seed. Who knows, we may have beat N.O. with a compotent QB that Fox wasn't calling plays around and still have a shot at NFC South.

which is why this team could easily be good next season

I want Fox gone but please keep Meeks. We all wondered what he would do when he came to a team would spend for Defensive talent and he has done wonders to the terrible D we had grown accustomed to. I don't know if he would be a good HC but he is one hell of a D coordinator and is vastly underrated in this league. Just my .02

he wouldn't likely stay with a new staff. Of course plenty of people want some super-aggressive D we don't have the horses for, but Meeks has shown that good defense doesn't necessarily mean sending 8 every down.

We'd need the help at DT to take that next step, but that's really about all.

Ron Meeks + Torrell Troup (UCF)= Top 6 or 7 D

Yup, we would have at least 3 to 4 more wins, if Jake had just stopped forcing the ball the SS. Moore proved this past week, spread the ball around just enough and Smith will be open when it matters.

At first i was disappointed with Meeks and some of the play calling from him, but now I realize that it wasn't on him it was on the players adjusting to his system. I mean hell he is making James Anderson and our young backups in Munnerlyn and Martin look like they've been playing for years. Meeks needs to focus on our CB's a little more tho, it'll be nice to see them make a few picks here and there. Gamble had one against the Pats but I dont remember the last time Marshall had a pick.

Gamble has 4 picks, Marshall has 3, Chris has 2, Godfrey has 1, Sherrod has 3.

He's doing damn good.

    • I get what you are saying. I'm just saying we made it to the win, we should have a bit of class and not dogpile on the QB because his stat line wasn't great. His stat lines weren't great for almost his entire pro career, but this time, we got a win. Give him a breather.  The team cleared the bar. In the end, that's all that matters. Do it enough times and well, good things happen.  We've shat the bed enough times with good-ish QB play. It's not like we've been regularly to the playoffs even with our best performing QBs over the years. Heck, Matt Stafford was a helluva QB in Detroit for a long time with nothing to show for it. Steve Bartowski was a great QB back in the day, but in 20 years of watching I saw one playoff game for the Falcons. Heck, even Dan Marino spent most of his illustrious career on a lousy Dolphins team.  And yet, Tampa's first Superbowl ring was with the esteemed Trent Dilfer at the helm. Sometimes it goes like that.
    • I don't care what they tell me. Its what they actually do that matters. Coaches and GM's say crap all the time to keep fan interest. They are always trying to sell you something.
    • But you have to separate the 2 things in order to move forward.  Its okay to enjoy winning and its also okay to be critical of what is happening.  Coaches do it why cant we?   Also they have to be thinking next off season, next year all in real time.  They are applying what is working, where help is needed and how to get better and make plans for that.   I am weirdly confident that Dan and Dave are seeing what we are seeing and will adjust.   The wildcard however are the teppers
