How bout that Sanchez? 1 game away from the big dance. This experience is gonna help him so much for the rest of his career.

USC crapped out the best defensive and offensive rookies in the league this year. What did the guy we traded our first round pick next year get us....a dozen tackles?

Actually, 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Fwiw, even the hall of fame defensive ends usually don't do to well their first season. Brown's first year numbers were on par with Strahan and Mario Williams, a little below Bruce Smith's, and although they don't play the same position, better than Kevin Green's first year numbers.

Not that Brown is going to be Hall of fame, but imo 99% of defensive end picks are not going to show their worth for 2-3 years.

no, I believe Dan Marino got there in his second year, but that is the youngest as far as years in the NFL. I believe...

Yeah, I think you're right. It's a shame that they never built a good enough team around Marino to win the big one though. I believe he could have done it with this Jets team, because they can play some defense.

Little perspective I guess.

Cushing had 133 tackles, 4 sacks, a safety, 10 passes defended, 4 picks and 2 forced fumbles.

I just don't get the constant rationalization of Hurney fugging us on this trade because of "potential". As of right now, 1 year later it is a horrible trade. Period.

On the other hand, Brown had more sacks than any of the defensive ends that were picked ahead of him. Defensive ends generally don't do well in their first year (with a few exceptions). Its not a rationalization. Its just the way things are in the NFL. All draft picks are a gamble. This one was a gamble, that that jury is still out on.

this is really a bad comparison.
