Just received word that “The Rae Carruth Story: 10 Years Later’’ will air on Outside the Lines on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN.

Here’s the quick summary that was sent out as part of the preview:

“A decade after then-Carolina Panther's receiver Rae Carruth commissioned the shooting death of his pregnant girlfriend, the couple's son delivered at six months in the aftermath of the shooting, suffers from cerebral palsy. The bullets missed the unborn baby, but oxygen to his brain was cut off. Now, 10, Chancellor Adams has learned to walk more than 150 steps without assistance. And the man who pulled the trigger that fateful day is seeking forgiveness for committing the crime that landed him a 50-year prison sentence. For his part, Carruth is not talking.’’

Carruth has refused all media requests since the incident took place. “The man who pulled the trigger’’, according to what transpired in the trial is Van Brett Watkins and he does speak. Watkins confessed to the shooting and testified against Carruth to avoid the death penalty. If you remember anything about the trial, you’ll recall that Watkins is a very outspoken person. That hasn’t changed.

“I don't like Rae Carruth. I probably would do something to Rae Carruth if I seen him,’’ Watkins said in a television interview from prison.

Thanks for posting dpanthers, not sure if I'll check it out though... F*ck Rae Carruth. I hope that bitch has gotten his ass ripped a new one in prison, repeatedly. He's a piece of sh*t.

I was curious about Carruth's background after seeing The Observer's story on Chancellor and had googled him... I found some crazy stuff. I think one site gathered some of its info from someone who had wrote him as a pen pal while he's been in prison. I learned a lot of stuff that I had never heard before when all of it happened (I mean, I was like 14 or 15 when it happened, so don't remember a lot).

But, I didn't know Carruth already had children with another woman in Cali before he met Cherica. I also didn't know Cherica was a stripper (don't remember the media ever reporting that), but it made her no less of a person in this situation. I also didn't know when the cops came to serve the warrant or question him within a few days after the shooting that he answered the door naked with another woman in the bed. He really is garbage.

Also, the story The Observer did on Chancellor was heartbreaking. Just think of what that kid could've done and been had his dad not been a psycho, murderous, heartless dickhead... Most likely, he never would've had any of the problems he's having now and been perfectly healthy. Rae Carruth is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

I'm off my soapbox now...

I dont either. I just happened to be flipping through the channels one day and saw the video piece on Carruth then they interviewed Sherikas moms afterwards. She said Carruth is still denying what he did and she wanted him to get help. They talked to the kid but he could barely talk because of his condition. Like I said this was a few years ago.

    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
    • Inappropriate relationship with a team staffer, followed up with some stalking behavior, and ultimately a felony home invasion charge from a visit at her apartment that culminated in him threatening her life and his as well.
