Howell and the sacks record

From the article..

Over a 17-game season, Howell’s current total would project to 97 sacks. The NFL record for most times sacked in a season is 76, set by David Carr with the expansion Texans in 2002.

Big numbers. I haven't watched any of their games however. Is he holding on to the ball? Frozen with indecision? Oline worse than ours? Ron shenanigans? It's interesting in the context of I think Rivera is gone after this year, and a new coach will want their own guy under center. There's a good amount of Panthers fans that would like to bring Howell home, as they feel it was a mistake to not draft him anyway.

It's the worst NFL OL I've ever seen and they find a way to get worse every week. The Giants had already matched their season sack total by halftime.

Early on lots of people were trying to blame Howell and of course some sacks are going to fall on the QB. But reality is starting to sink in that this OL Ron has assembled is just completely and absolutely atrocious.

Keep in mind the fastest average time to throw in the NFL is Tua at 2.37 seconds. So even the fastest to throw QB in the NFL would be getting pressured or hit on over half of his dropbacks in the Giants game.

This should bring back painful memories for Panthers fans. The Bell/Chandler OT plan ring a bell? 😂

I am entirely neutral. I watched him from time to time at UNC, and I know Duke Howell, his father, from way back in high school.

Almost 100 sacks in a season is mind-boggling though. Everyone points to Carr being ruined by similar experience with the Texans, and while it was probably more than just those sacks, I have no doubt that it contributed. This would greatly surpass Carr's numbers.

    • It's going to take time to really evaluate new ownership. I still have some hopes that they can get us past the curse of the Jordan years. We got screwed over by the league with the lottery yet again, nothing in this draft was ever going to make people happy after that happened.
    • The Hornets were screwed when they lost out on the #1 pick. Outside of Cooper Flagg this was a terrible draft class full of risky prospects and red flags. Kon Knueppel likely won't ever be a superstar - or even a star, realistically - but he can be a solid contributor for a long time in the league. That's actually more than I think will end up being the case for many of these players.
    • I guess we should disregard what all these places say about our draft? And just trust you guys on this board? And as far as the Mark Williams trade, most places are saying we got the much better end of that trade for what its worth to yall. Bleacher report has Kon a "B", BR has him C+, Fansided A-, NBC Sports overall draft an A-, Sports Illustrated overall A-, MSN has Kon a B+, Yahoo Sports has us at an A- overall. Here is what ESPN posted:  Post-Draft Analysis Knueppel's well-rounded perimeter game and terrific 3-point shooting ultimately won out in Charlotte's decision process, with the Hornets attracted to his fit with their current roster and his long-term potential. He should help stabilize their perimeter minutes immediately, with his dependability all season at Duke a major selling point. The Hornets were thought to be exploring moves here, but were content to simply grab their guy and move forward. This is a strong match that should pay off right away for both sides. -- Jeremy Woo
