Thomas Jones could be next to get the boot

Thomas Jones is getting old, and is above average at best. 2.6 ypc avg compared to Shonn Greene's 5.6 ypc avg with Greene having MORE carries.

He's 31, might as well get some picks out of him while they still can. They still have one of the best run blocking o-line's, as well as their all-pro, insanely talented fullback Tony Richardson. They'll be fine without him.

jones had over 1400 yards and 4.6 yards per career during the 2009 season. where did those numbers come from?

post season, where he really showed his age.

also: during regular season he had 4.2 yards per carry, which is a respectable number, but not good enough to be resigned at his age.

I can agree with that. but don't you think they could get some value out of him? hes 31, but hes had 5 straight 1,000 yard seasons

I'd have to agree that someone out there might spend a pick or 2 on him.. Chargers have the little man (Sproles) as their #1? I'd say Jones would be a good fit there..

Jones had his career start late, so there is debate on how worn out his legs are -vs- his actual age.. His last 5 years are good, and I think there are teams out there who might spend on him...

I also think it would be a good move for the Jets to get rid of him since they have 2 very capable backs and free up some cap space/roster spots.. If they can get value, that's an added bonus..

If they have no one worth keeping on the roster more valuable in some degree than Jones, well,... a 3 headed RB core never hurt... Especially since Washington went out and Greene/Jones was a good combo...

But anytime you can get value or free up a roster spot for a much needed player, is always a bonus when someone is expendable..

you do realize the man was 2nd in the league in carries. after Washington went down he was the work horse. look im not saying they shouldn't get rid of him. But hes better than LT at this point. and if they release him, he'll find work within a week of free agency

def agree..

just saying... he's expendable.. get some value and put the Washington/Greene into gear.. If it's not worth it from the F.O. stand point and they don't need a roster spot open, then keep him..

I'd take draft picks for him in a second though...

of course he's better than LT. I'm not arguing that he's a bad running back. I think he's slightly above average, and agree he'll have no problems finding a starting role.

What I'm saying is for the Jets it's best to move on with their 2 very capable RB's that are cheaper than Jones.

if we could get value for Stew, id love to sign TJ

oh god no. keep double trouble going until D-Will starts losing a step, then let Stewie take the reigns as the #1.

    • Steelers fans will take over the Stadium and city   It will be unbearable  worse for me, on the west coast, resigned to the nfl network and you know it will be a steelers broadcast team.    It was ungodly bad with sheduer 2 weeks ago  Last game, tried listening  on panthers radio and  watching  on espn live last week but the delay between the 2 drove me nuts  so as bad as they were playing, found something else to do
    • I mean I don't have a personal axe to grind with any human on the Panthers roster.  I know AT shouldn't be dominating the slot. The fact he is....is because we have a horrific front office/management.   I can part with any player.   The goal is a winning team.   the root of the AT ranting, is really just looking out for BY (people like to call me BY hater though).  A QB who was basically screwed from day 1 when we got drafted here.  I went hard at Carolina then too for setting him up to fail. Because it was obvious from the jump the setup was failure by design.  Which was true.   I said Frank bad zero sense with BY.  Miles Sandes made double zero sense.  The players they got in FA made zero sense.     Either you build a BY O.....or you move on from BY.  I have said I am cool either way.  We are in no man's land and have been there since they day we drafted him.
    • It's the QB school guy mentality. Thielen is a shitty #1 option so aaarrrrggghhhh FUUUUUUUUUG HIM!!! This dude SUCKS!!! Yeah, Thielen should no longer be a #1 option at this stage in his career. He honestly shouldn't be a starter at this point in his career. But it's not an Adam Thielen issue that we've had to ask him to do that.
