But once he's officially cut, he can retire and still keep the money.

Most times you lose any future salary when you retire. Perhaps because it is guaranteed he still gets it no matter what. Still he is likely not to retire unless he doesn't get on with any else.

Thanks, that makes sense. P55, Lots of changes happening to the panthers tonight; do you think decisions like Jake and D. Lewis are good ones?

It all depends on who we pick up to replace them with. Cutting Jake only makes sense if we replace him with someone who is an upgrade. If we traded for McNabb for example it would be a good thing (won't happen though). But if we go into camp with McCown, Moore, and a rookie as our three quarterbacks, we could be one injury away from disaster.

Same with Lewis. By getting rid of veterans with experience you lose a lot in the locker room. If you replace them with other veterans you can often make up the difference. But if you have a locker room full of inexperienced new faces, it could hurt the chemistry of the team and they might fall apart at the first sign of adversity. That rarely happens in a locker room of hardened veterans.

I guess only time will tell.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
