Peppers is a Bear

Jake Delhomme was an example of overpaying in search of a quick fix? What was it, 2 years, $4 million? Diggs? You're comparing the Diggs signing to Peppers? Really? Ken Lucas wasn't worth the contract; the FO got burned the same way the Bears just did. Kemo had poor luck with injuries. And I'm pretty sure we didn't shell out millions for Moore.

The post I was replying to stated, "Free agency is fools gold for teams looking for a quick fix."

That's what I was replying to.

I don't mind using free agency for bargains and reclamation projects (see: Delhomme at the time, Brayton, Moore, Lewis, Diggs, etc).

To which I wholeheartedly agree!

Like I said in another post, spending money on FAs for the sake of doing so is the Redskins way. Filling a need is another.

Lucas was actually a "name" FA pickup the season the Panthers signed him out of Seattle.

And we got burned by it

Yes... and?

And we got burned by it

So, he was a Free Agent after Dallas released him.

He was an undrafted rookie. Ever team signs undrafted rookies, very rarely do they work out.

So how do these examples reaffirm the post, "Signings like this only serve to reaffirm the position of the FO regarding free agency?"

We really don't need to continue to take this thread off track. Free Agency is a gamble for every team. That's the bottom line. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it does not work out.

Lucas and Kemo both "filled a need" but we got burned when we tried for the quick fix.

And if people thought Moore would've been any good, then he would've been drafted a few months before (that goes for us too)

Hopefully, I will! lol

Dimbee, you enjoying the pillaging of the Memphis Tigers recruiting class by scumbag Calipari ? Also, why are you a UK fan and Bears fan ? Just curious. I figured most of those backwards, incestuous UK folks are Bengals fans.

Pep better get his longjohns out playing in colda$$ windy Soldier Field.

It was obvious Peps hated it here. When he said it had nothing to do about the money, he was right. No amount of money the Panthers offered would be enough for him to stay. I have to give him a little credit in that he kept turning down the Carolina offers instead of taking it, sitting on it, and continue the half-@ss effort he has been giving the past several seasons because he was less than thrilled to be here.

I don't recall the Bears being on his short list. Carey probably told him he would get better endorsement money if he went to a big market team.

Looking at the video again of his press conference, did Pep think he just joined the Police Force with that ugly jacket of his?? Hell, he probably think he is in the Navy too. My brother was in the Navy & his jumpsuit look like Pep's ugly jacket but without the stripes.

It sounds like you are getting intelligent responses that are challenging your stance and you now want to get the thread "back on track."

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
