Draft Needs

chbright, i think you will be dissappointed when we don't take a DT in this years draft. We already have 6 DTs under contract. The signing of Ed Johnson ensured that we do not take one in the draft.. we have too many holes to fill.

Louis Leonard

Tank Tyler

Ed Johnson

Corvey Irvin

Nick Hayden

Derek Landri

I AM, you are forgetting about CJ Wilson, he was tendered. He isn't much more than a warm body, but he is still on the roster. So assuming Richard Marshall get's a contract from another team, and we match it, we will still have 4 CBs. We only lost Dante Wesley, so when you look at it that way, CB is not that great of a need.. we are just replacing Dante Wesley from last year's group.

OLB and WR and DE are definitely our biggest needs still.

I still think we will take a DT...because on that list I only see 1 true NT.

I see 3 guys that have played NT in the NFL..

Leonard, Tyler, and Johnson. Ed Johnson played NT for the Colts his entire rookie season. Tyler almost won the job in KC for the NT position ins a 3-4! That really says something.. and Leonard is the one true NT you were referring to.

they were out of place.Tyler played the NT in KC 34 and then got demoted. And you dont have to be "NT" to be NT for the colts..lol

You forget that we have the colts DC from that season.. so you are laughing at us, because I guarantee that's where we intend to play him.

Tyler did get demoted, but his strength is playing the run. Anybody know where Tyler played on our line before he got injured? I will tell you it was NT.

But we dont have their old HC.Tyler played both spots. And your right his strength is the run.(never had a sack)...and IDK about Johnsons weight he came into the league at 296 but reports were he was up to 315.I still think we need a DT.

Do you still think we need a NT? Or a DT? I would like a 1 gap penetrator, but I don't think the Panthers will take one.

FFS, just because we signed guys doesn't mean they're good enough as starters. Sometimes, all you need to do is look at the stats. We were 23rd in the league in sacks last year, that's already below average. We are now losing our best player on the D-line by any standards. No matter who we replace him with, I'm sure that the new guy won't demand double teams like pep did. If you think that D-line isn't a major need coming into this draft, you're arguing that the likes of Hayden, Johnson and Brown will all step up BIG TIME and be above average starters in the nfl. That is a slippery slope of speculation.

i think leonard and tyler are the starters a DT... with irvin as depth. still room to add one or two... but i think the pass rush from DE is most critical. we need to pressure the QB. brown showed flashes but peppers he is not.

You are forgetting about Ed Johnson...Meeks guy who played very well as a rookie.

I am not saying the dline as a whole isn't a major need.. just not DT. DE is a major need and that is where most of the sacks come from..

    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
    • Football is not the professional sport where timidness and apprehension are justly rewarded.
    • Bryce Young had a super high floor definitely at least won't be a bust safe pick we allegedly had seen in some time.......and went on to have one of the worst rookie seasons of all time.  They are all lotto picks.  And that is especially true for whatever they will be day 1 in the NFL.  I don't think Tmac is a sure thing year 1.  It's not like we watched him do his thing in the SEC.  He was a PAC12 guy.  I'm sure it will take time
