My random Peppers ramblings

Epistaxis

Recommended Posts

So the Bears went out and spent a ton of dough on Peppers, Taylor, and Manumaleuna.

No surprise, they needed help in a ton of areas.

Some of my random thoughts....

1) Peppers is better than any lineman the Bears had. Period. Whether he takes half a season off or just a few plays, he is a significant upgrade over anything they had.

2) The money. My thought is the same for this signing or any signing in any sport. Who cares? Every fan should wish his or her team conducted business like the New York Yankees, and any bitching is jealousy. We should all want our teams to fuction darn near non-profit status. You want the money in shareholder pockets or to go to talent on the field? Think about it.

It aint my money, I have no money and only devotion invested in the Chicago Bears, so if they spend all the McCaskey's money, I really don't care. Break the bank. Uncapped year. Go nuts. That argument is for the football retarded.

3) Peppers is on the downside. Probably. So what? See point 1)

4) Why Taylor? Simple. He fits Martz's system and is an upgrade over Forte.

5) Brandon M. is a blocking TE that again fits Martz and his system. Again, it is just money. Who cares?

6) The Bears are still hurting on the OL and in the defensive secondary, so unless any of these three can block (which I guess Brandon M. helps with) the Bears are better than they were before Friday, but still are not legit SB contenders until they address these areas. Also, I'm still not sure which WR is anything but a #3 at best on any other roster. A big problem in the Martz system.

S'all I got.

Sure.

But again, I don't give a damn about money.

Perhaps this signing will put to bed the common and incorrect assumption by the football retarded regurgitators that the Bears are "cheap".

They haven't been for a very long time.

They have been stupid, and bad, but not cheap.

I think a change of scenery can help him on and off the field. Epi, back me up on this, but he can probably go to anywhere in Chicago and the chances are far greater that he can have more privacy than he ever did here. Not EVERYONE in Chicago is going to know who he is.

Hm.

Dunno.

Depends on where he goes, but yes, a large number of people won't know who he is, or care, but his size would attract attention until somebody figures it out.

Overall most stars in this town have been happy with the trappings that come with stardom, and being able to get lost in the large town anonymity if needed.

That was what I was trying to say, but you put it far more eloquently than I.

I think they overpaid Peppers considering he does take plays off, and putting him on the same line with Tommie Harris, who does the same thing, can lead to trouble. Overpaying can also hurt the bears in the long run when a cap is reestablished. Lovie and Angelo did all this out of desperation; they know their jobs are on the line.

They haven't been for a very long time..

I sent Adam Schefter a message on Twitter just after Gaines Adams' passing asking him whether he saw the Bears making a play for Pep since Wale would be a Free Agent and Gaines passed away.

His response (verbatim): "They won't spend the $."

I replied that heneeds to get with the Angelo/Lovie times and cast away his old Bears misconception...

His reply (verbatim): "We'll see :)"

I replied back on Friday with, "Are you ready to re-evaluate the Bears now?"

He has yet to reply back...

lol

Yeah, he's one of the worst when it comes to not doing any thinking and just repeating old, wrong news.

Typical ESPN dumbassery when it comes to anything outside of the greater NY, NJ, Conn, Phila area.

Pep was a good signing. He will help the Bears tremendously. We Panther fans are mainly bitter about him leaving and the way it went.

Personally, I despise free agency but I guess the bears felt they had no choice. No real picks in the important rounds. But as with any NFL team, it ain't gonna be Pep that makes this team great. It's on Cutler's shoulders and it always will be.

    • Damn back to 10th. I only caught the last 5 minutes but some of those 3's were horrible lol. In that close of game you can't be launching those many hail mary's when you could be chipping away from the foul line. I guess no one wanted to get in the paint and didn't trust the refs to give them the calls maybe? Gonna watch the highlights to get a better idea of the flow of the game
    • I agree.  The Big 12 is a good conference, and he is the swinging dick in that conference.  If Bill Self retires, that sets Kansas back a bit, and Arizona moves even further ahead as the best team in that conference.  Arizona can crush west coast recruiting with USC / UCLA no longer being relevant for LA kids, and Gonzaga not being able to compete moneywise.   If Lloyd comes here, he will be second fiddle to Duke every single year in NIL and recruits.  Not to mention the entire SEC and Big East for kids who want to stay in those regions to play. This is why I keep saying go get Mark Few.  Has proven he can do more with less from an X / O perspective but can also recruit All American players and compete at a high level. He's a god at Gonzaga, but for $9M he'd make the move as that's 4x what he's making at Gonzaga, and makes him the highest paid coach in the country.
    • Certainly not going to miss his constant whiffs on sacks and tackles.
