Slam magazine article on the Bobs

This is a well written article by Slam magazine on our current playoff run. Once again a national media source that isnt "tainted" by Charlotte politics and red tape hits a home run and gives us a nice write up on our local basketball team. I keep saying the best sources of info on the Bobcats are outside of the city. Here's a few paragraphs, click the link below to read the rest...

Every once in awhile a team comes along that defies logic and reason. The ‘Tawn and ‘Toine Dallas Mavericks, ‘98-99 New York Knicks, and personal favorite, 2007 “We Believe” Warriors, are recent examples of chaos defined of the court. In short bursts, these temporarily glued together units shift the paradigm of what constitutes a team and the formula for winning.

A candidate this year: Charlotte Bobcats.

The Bobcats are one of the few teams who have taken on salary the last two years, mortgaging future first round picks and salary cap relief in an effort to win as soon as possible. Last year it was the acquisition of the unfathomable contracts of Boris Diaw and DeSagana Diop and when that wasn’t enough, they went out and got Stephen “Captain Jax” Jackson and Tyrus Thomas this season.

The resulting gestalt is a fringe playoff team with minimal flexibility for years to come. That’s in the plane of reality but I’d argue it’s a bit more – the Bobcats have the best chance to invert the balance of power in the Eastern Conference this year. Should they sneak into the Playoffs, the Bobcats are the League’s best chance of “believin’” again and pulling off an epic playoff upset.

Wow. awesome article. Makes me feel great about this team. The Diaw/Thomas/Felton/Jax/Wallace lineup is getting to be pretty good while maintaining tons of potential. :)

The Tyrus Thomas & Jax acquisitions were awesome moves.

edit: And don't forget we still have Augustin who has become pretty impressive as of late.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
