Yasinskas thinks one "starter" needed at DT

lol at peppers getting double teamed.

Conistently, no...but he did command them, especially games where he demonstrated that he actually wanted to play i.e. the Vikings. He was getting double teams after the first half of that contest for sure.

Kenny Powers and ncBobcat ye of little faith. How many picks do you want us to invest in the interior dline. We have already used two 2010 picks on DT's (Tank and LL) we have picked up a young FA (ED),and have a 3rd rounder waiting in the wings to show what he can do. Kenny suggested trading up using a future 1st and 4th too? And Ncbobcat suggests that the run on DT's i am projecting is why we need to get one in 2nd. The run is exactly why their will be no value even in the 2nd. Also, i am not saying that their will be a run on WR's as much as the DT's but the pickings will be equally slim by the 3rd. The window to get a WR is narrower than a DT. If you are looking for depth more than starter for DT. Jeff Owens, Linvall Joseph, Torrell Troup, and Mike Neal are options in the 3rd or LATER.

Again, we have depth at DT, questionable starters. We have a starting WR and little depth. Then the question once agian begs...if you are looking for a STARTER where do you get him. I say we need a starter at DT and the second is where we get him. We need depth at WR and that can be EASILY had in the third. I think the staff will have their final sink or swim trial for Jarrett this season. Even if a rookie WR is drafted, he would not unseat Jarrett THIS season.

Historically, especially the past decade, for highly drafted players (first day)...which position has made the biggest splash for rookies and which one had had the most duds?

So not only is DT a need for a starter, IMO, it is also a safer pick.

Depends where they actually fall. You may look at more draft sites than I do, but you seem to have the DTs heavily run on in the first and the WRs heavily run on in the second. I can see your case if that what actually happens. However, I'm not seeing the run on DTs THAT heavily in the first, but the first AND second, where the pickings are slim in the third. As fars as WR, what I have seen is no run whatsoever....just basically starting in the second as first round talent is thin this year where outside of the top few guys, many should be left in the third.

So I guess it depends on how one thinks the draft will acually shake out.

Oh and i forgot about Shipley and Taylor Price on that list. SO..i would say the upside and versatility of Mardy Gilyard or any of the other's i mentioned would be better than hoping that Tyson is there. CAUSE that is about the only guy i see available at that point. How can DT be a safer pick when odds are against you. We will have our choice of several talented WR's or we can cross our fingers than there is not a run on DT's and someone other than Tyson is there.

I can not see how you can argue the fact that the DT class is top heavy with 8-9 guys worthy of a 1st through 3rd pick. When the amount of WR's is closer to 16 in that value range and we can get our choice after the top 4.

We have a starting WR and little depth.

little depth?

1-Steve Smith

2-Dwayne Jarrett

3-Kenneth Moore

4-Dexter Jackson

5-Wallace Wright

6-Charly Martin

again...little depth? we have 1 legit starter in Smitty, and a guy who could eventually turn into a #2 in Jarrett. Kenneth Moore showed last year he is a good #3, D-Jack, can be a good #4, and KR/PR guy. Wright, I have no idea about other than he is a ST beast. and Charly Martin only played in a few games last season. we have depth, just not a legit #2. say we draft Arrelious Benn who battle Jarrett in TC for the #2 WR position. all of a sudden, we "COULD" have a really good passing game.

I see a run on DT's because it is a very strong class. McCoy and Suh at the top, teams switching to 3-4's or teams with aging NT's will have Cody, Cam, and Williams highly valued and coveted. 4-3 teams that are becoming increasingly rare will compete for DT's while 3-4 teams will eye guys like Tyson and Odrick to play DE. So yeah i think their will be more DT/DE drafted early than skill positions. I only see Tate and Dez going in the first. That leaves alot of talent in the second.

1-Steve Smith / needs help

2-Dwayne Jarrett / could help but i would hedge my bet

3-Kenneth Moore / i am a Wake Forest homer but he could be upgraded

4-Dexter Jackson / Likely will not make the squad if talent is brought in

5-Wallace Wright/ special teams player not a WR actually

6-Charly Martin / Likely will not make the squad if talent is brought in

so way i see it we have 3 spots that could be upgraded. That is if Wallace Wright is as good on special as advertised.

My bad, I should have qualified that...little QUALITY depth. Of course there are bodies, but I don't see any of those guys becoming a solid #2 behind Smitty...#3 maybe.

    • I thought he had a few really nice flashes.  I can see him showing out this year
    • I have heard that before--when standing in front of a full body mirror at Old Navy.  I said it, actually. Seriously, Let's go on what we know. There is reason for optimism that exceeds random opinions and negativity: 1. Last year, the offense was the priority and the interior offensive line was the focal point. Morgan addressed it in free agency and the draft. They improved.  2.  Last year, Canales pulled Young after 2 games and replaced him with an established veteran.  Instead of giving up on Young, he developed him, primarily focusing on his footwork and timing.  Continued development in his fundamentals should result in improved play.  (this is significant because some athletes rely on natural ability and do not adapt well.  They resort to old habits. This means that Bryce is "teachable" and is willing to face adversity and fight through it.  That is what you want in a QB.) 3. Morgan drafted a raw talent at WR; and we all knew he was raw.  Huddlers are already calling it a bust, but his productivity numbers were in line with the other WRs drafted around where he was drafted.  So, yes, he was a bit disappointing, but what part of "Raw" is not understood here?  Evil Bryce, then inconsistent Dalton, then good Bryce--all while facing the top defensive backs--and let's not forget about his lingering injuries--and we should understand XL's productivity.  Morgan was looking for a home run based on XL's 1-season productivity and his freakish athleticism, but I always thought we would not know what we have until year 2.  TMac alone will make XL better--a solid #2. 4.  If you blame Morgan for drafting XL, you must give him credit for making Coker a priority free agent.  In my view, he addressed WR in 2024 pretty effectively in the long view.  5.  Let's look at the rest of the draft.  Brooks?  The best RB in the draft in round 2?  Morgan was attempting to build a solid run game behind Bryce.  Wallace was a very solid third round pick at LB. Sanders is a strong TE for a fourth round pick. 6.  Not much is being said about the development of Chau Smith-Wade.  His improvement mirrors Bryce Young's, actually.  In his first 8 games, his PFF rating was 36.5.  In the final 9 games, his PFF rating was 66.7.   7.  With so many needs, Morgan hit the UDFA market with success. In addition to Coker, Demani Richardson got 400+ snaps and had a 60.1 PFF grade, including an interception. 8.  In free agency, Morgan spent big bucks on Guards, a move that made his QB better. He added David Moore, Nijman,  He signed Clowney, Wonnum, Robinson, Jewel, Chaisson, Fuller, Scott, D. Jackson, Dionte Johnson, etc.  A few years of Fitterer left him with more holes that players.  Some did not work out, but he did all this on a budget (after he splurged on Lewis and Hunt).  It is hard to get a free agent to come to a team that loses--so in some cases, Morgan had to overpay or accept questionable players. Morgan's first year as a GM demonstrated an understanding of the game like we have not seen since Polian, before his lost it. Canales, on the other hand, should be rated by the improvement of players.  Zavala, Ekwonu, Mays, Young, Smith-Wade, Coker, Wallace--all improved.  He had to overcome major losses such as D. Brown, Shaq, Dionte Johnson, Corbett--and we saw growth.  Despite all this team went through, after 8 games of disarray, This team finished 4-5 with close losses to both Super Bowl teams.  Frankly, I do not know how he did it. This year was better.  The WR room is solid with depth.  The OL room is solid with depth.  The TE room is as good as it has been in a while.  The RB room has the potential to be as good as it was when we had 28 and 34.  DBs?  Better.  DL?  Better.  Edge?  better.  The bottom of the roster?  Much better. We really don't know what we have yet, and that makes this offseason exciting.
