#2 WR Question

This is exactly the reasoning behind my unconventional 2nd and 3rd round picks used on WR's. I insist that we have to walk away from this draft with two new WR's. Now what rounds we acquire them is open. Even if we feel Jarrett can block and be physical like Moose we need to add players that are capable and willing to block in the running game. That is why speed/size combination's like Carlton Mitchell and Marcus Easley are on my short list. But also since we were SECOND in the league on kick returns last year we can not come away without a return specialist. That puts Mardy Gilyard, Antonio Brown and Dexter McCluster on our radar. Lastly sadly Smitty is aging and one day he will retire. Therefore potential number 1's like Taylor Price, Demaryius Thomas, and Andre Roberts are on my list. Point is we all know WR and KR is a weakness. It has been that way for awhile.

steve smith is going to have a very nice, steady decline from a burner flanker to hulked out Hines Ward.

I certainly hope so. He gets enough practice throwing blocks on off-tackle run plays. Moose has always gotten the kudos for his run blocking, but Smitty's no slouch either.

I have heard the theory that when Smitty loses his speed that he will drastically decline..

I do agree with Fiz here... The dude can run routes and he will not lose his strength as fast as people think he will drop in speed...

Therefore, his speed won't be a factor in a drastic decline when he can still run crisp routes and battle corners for the ball...

I think Hines Ward is a great comparison.. (in another 3 or 4 years)... this year, he still out ran DB's...

I'm just going to go ahead and say it. Brandon Marshall. It sounds almost obvious. You have no need to worry about an un-proven WR. He'll be a lock for top 3 in the league pretty soon, as if he isn't already. The Panthers could make it work, sure they might give up a lot, but he's young and proven. A few years under Smitty and he will straighten up. Any one is his position, just wants to win, Brandon would take one look at our offense and think to himself "I'm the missing link to a Super Bowl run." Our offensive line, Double Trouble, Matt Moore, and 89 + Brandon Marshall. You can talk all you want, but that screams success.

Maybe a big move for Carolina would be good.

Oh and,

"Regarding Marshall's breakaway ability, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers said, "Brandon Marshall is a defensive lineman playing wide receiver. He wants to inflict punishment on you. He wants you to try to tackle him so he can shove you off of him and get more yards."Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said Marshall is "the toughest guy to bring down, one-on-one."

The main reason I see him not coming to Charlotte was his TC issues last year...

Def don't want to see us go through that.. but his talent is no doubt something we could use.. with the way he put the blinders on and got past that whole issue, I can see him being worth to take a chance on...
