New Mock Drafts with Trade Up Scenarios...

I was very cold towards trading up for a long while but after listening to the FO comment on our younger players I'm starting to warm up to the idea of losing some picks if it gets us a difference maker. With as many veterans we cut we're still only 1-2 players from the playoffs. The only glaring needs are WR and DE.

So here are some scenarios...

Trade next year's 1st, this year's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for Eagles/Ravens 1st and 2nd. I feel like this is plausible because the Eagles love to trade down and I'm sure the Raven's wouldn't mind getting their 3rd and 4th back.

1st - Golden Tate - WR/RS - would provide an instant upgrade and a strong 3 WR set. The Smoke route makes a comeback.

2nd - Jermaine Cunningham - DE - pass rush specialist

6th - Armanti Edwards - QB - can't resist.

6thc - Joe Hawley - C - a versatile late round O-lineman? I'm pretty sure it's in the rules somewhere that we have to draft him.

6thc - Dennis Landolt - OT - see above.

7th - Josh Hull - MLB - having a Penn State LB for ST would be nice.

7thc - Robert Malone - P - it's a very shallow draft for kickers but a decent one for punters. Maybe he can do kickoffs?

Trade next year's 1st and this year's 2nd and 6th to New England at #22. The rape and pillaging continues as New England will have 4 2nd round picks in a deep 2010 draft and 3 1st rounders in 2011. Seems plausible.

1st - Everson Griffen - DE - a great DE for us. Mocks have all the top DE's all over the place so insert your favorite DE here as long as he's not named Jason Pierre Paul.

3rd - Mardy Gilyard - WR/RS - again it's hard to know where all of these WR's are going to go. It's a deep WR class so you have a pool of about 5 guys that we could draft here.

4th - Jeremy Williams - WR - we're attacking our glaring needs hard which is the attitude you need when trading up.

6thc - Joe Hawley - C

6thc - Dennis Landolt - OT

7th - Josh Hull - MLB

7thc - Robert Malone - P

I'd love some feedback.

Another possibility if gilyard is hone in the third is Andre Roberts. I would love to have griffin or Brandon Graham both of whom have the potential to fall into the second round. It will be interesting to see who is still available after that first night...it will go a long way in determining what we do.

i hate the 1st option - that seems like we are giving up a lot. honestly i would be happy if we didnt trade up and just work with what we have. go into next year with a clean slate.

We SHOULDNT have to trade up each year. We pay out scouts to find good players in later rounds so you dont need to have high picks to build a good team.

I know we've kind of clashed viewpoints so far about Panthers draft strategy, and I'd have to disagree again...

This draft is talent (bang for your buck, so to speak) heavy in the middle rounds, and while I would love to move up and get Tate above anyone else, I'm afraid we wouldn't give up so much to do so...

I'm still betting we'll move up with KC or someone else at the top of the second for either a WR we really want (Tate could very well slide this far) or a defensive guy that slides... All it would take is next year's first and we could possibly flip flop 4th rounders to sweeten the deal, and get a 5th rounder out of the trade partner too...

Again, that is just my opinion... But I think we'll look more into acquiring more picks in the 4th round harder than we will look to move into the first...

I appreciate your analysis though, and wouldn't be mad if it worked out this way...

I don't make these scenarios so much to promote the actions but mostly just to give a good example of what it would look like. It's easier to see how you feel about it once you actually see it worked out.

After doing these I realized I wouldn't pull my hair out if we sold the farm for a DE & WR. We don't really have that many holes so we don't need a ton of high draft picks.

Oh yeah and if you ever got the idea that we have clashed about anything then I wouldn't worry about it because I don't feel that way. Nothing wrong with disagreeing with somebody.
