What?

Goings is a fullback/3rd down back/emergency tailback/kick returner. They haven't needed him there this year but all the same that's his role, he's performed well in both backfield positions in the past. We may have failed if he's lined up at running back but it's better than the alternative which is nobody.

Hopefully it doesn't come down to it but I and apparently the staff like the insurance he brings as a multiple position backup that plays special teams.

He performed decently, 5 years ago.

He's good insurance, but he is honestly a wasted roster spot.

He is John Fox's kind of guy. Can play multiple positions, does whatever he's asked to help the team, doesn't complain. Exact opposite of Jenkins.

So what would you rather waste that 45 man roster spot on?

The backups break down like this

QB 12 J.McCown

K 4 J.Kasay

K 5 R.Lloyd

P 7 J.Baker

WR 18 D.Hackett

WR 84 M.Jones

CB 23 D.Wesley

CB 27 C.Wilson

CB 31 R.Marshall

RB 37 N.Goings

RB 28 J.Stewart

FB 45 B.Hoover

LB 50 J.Anderson

LB 54 L.Johnson

LB 55 D.Curry

LB/LS 56 J.Kyle

DE 66 H.Taylor

G 73 J.Bridges,

T 76 F.Omiyale

TE 82 G.Barnidge

S 25 N.Salley

DE 95 C.Johnson

DT 98 J.Parker

If anything they carry too many linebackers. Goings is the backup FB, and third running back, he's a valuable skilled position player.

Yes they are, but they can't be asked to play offense if your fullback, or I don't even want to think about a RB goes down.

:nono: Don't be thinking like that. When Goings had that concussion at Seattle in 2005, I knew we were doomed. We had another RB, Robinson?, but that didn't work at all.

A 4th wide receiver, so the team could actually think about converting a 3rd and long.

But with Vincent out the Panthers have 4 WRs activated now.

The day Fox lines up 4 wideouts without one of them being TE or a RB split out of the backfield will be the day more poor little heart gives up the ghost. Besides In the past the only thing I can remember coming out of our empty backfield sets are Jake getting floored and fumbling.

Oh and BTW this year they can convert a third and long just hand it to Deangelo and get the hell out of the way.
