Hoover: Panthers in 'opportunity to fail'

Coaches give the meat and veteran players provide the potatoes. While you might not be a good example, my tenured peers give me some finite details that my supervisor doesn't have the time for because he's busy running a company. Also, players and coaches don't tend to hang out with one another, players do. You would be shocked at the nuggets gleened when a setting is more casual.

lol coaches give the meat.

So, your replacement gets hired, once their up to speed you're on the street. What do you do? Extrapolate that?

Okay, the argument to the contrary is premature specualtion then as well. Agreed, only the FO knows the real reason, but the trend lends to the premise.

My crappy theory is that they could no longer tie up extra roster spots (see also Rhys Lloyd) with non special teams contributors. When it came to FB it was a no brainer which one to let go based on what they had invested.

Either way if I had to bet, of course not, performance was not in the equation. But that's just speculation

We don't need no stinkin' FBs... If Tony goes down, we got Sutton... If Sutton goes down too, we got 2 guys suited for the HBack position that can fill in just fine...

In case you are forgetting, with all of our FBs missing time last season, our RBs set a milestone that has never been reached before...

all our fbs were missing at the same time?

funny how you ask a guy who got released unexpectantly and ask him how he feels and he is upset. what was he supposed to say? " Oh! i love the panthers for cutting me!!! i should thank god that the fans allow me to live to play for the panthers!!!"

My question is what did he say that wasnt true?

No, but the position was extremely inconsistent... I do believe I remember a TE lining up there most of a game or two... but Sutton did take over quite well when he got his shot... No?

are you worried about the concussion on fiammetta? with the new findings on that with players , they may keep him out longer if he gets another one. do you really think sutton can hold up for a year at fullback?

If Hoover hates it so bad, he should take his own advice (at least, the advice portrayed on this advertisement he posed for on a AAA advertisement I snapped a shitty photo of on the very day of his release)...

That ad read, "Join the Winning Team" and had a pic of Hoov holding up a Panthers AAA card...

If the Panthers are full of fail, go ahead and join a winning team, Brad... We'll be glad to let Tony Fiammetta lead the way as we run all over their defense...

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
