Dream Draft

First I think we should sign Alex Brown as he can solidify our DE position and allow us to address other areas in the draft.

On to the draft,

Trades:

1 (Trading next years 1st)

Trade 2011 first round and 2010 4th (112)

and receive 2010 2nd round (36), 4th round (102) and 5th round (144)

2 (Trading down in the second round)

Trade our 2nd round (48)

for a later 2nd round and a late 3rd or early 4th such as (62 and 93) or (60 and 104)

Draft:

(assuming the 62/93 trade)

With the 36 pick of the draft the Panthers select:

Golden Tate (WR) - A solid WR who can become the #1 WR like Smith wants.

Alt - Demaryius Thomas, Arrelious Benn

With Pick 62:

Lamarr Houston (DT) - A Meeks style defensive tackle who can penetrate an offensive line and can immediately contribute in a position of need.

Alt - Tyson Alualu, Brian Price (doubtful to fall this far), Cam Thomas

With pick 78:

Carlton Mitchell (WR) - A big wide receiver with tons of potential. With Tate and Mitchell, our wide receivers will be set for years.

Alt - Eric Decker, Taylor Price, Brandon LaFell, Dezmon Briscoe

With pick 93:

Rennie Curran (OLB) - A tackling-machine who can add to our already strong linebacker group and can take over SS linebacker if Conner or Anderson don't work out.

Alt - Eric Norwood, Jason Worilds, A.J. Edds

With pick 102:

Javier Arenas (CB and returner) - Is a solid corner who could be great as a nickel if Richard Marshall leaves after next year. Can also immediately contribute as a returner.

Alt - Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (might be a slight reach here)

With pick 144:

Jarrett Brown (QB) - A developmental QB with tons of upside. Has a monster arm that could work in our play-action based offense. He would sit behind Moore this year and serve as a great back-up plan if Moore doesn't turn out as well as we would hope.

Alt - Levi Brown, Bill Stull, Jevan Snead

With pick 175:

Vince Oghobaase (DT) - An intelligent DT who could be a solid rotational player

Alt - George Selvie, Jermaine Cunningham

With pick 202:

Leigh Tiffin (K) - A kicker to groom as Kasay becomes older

With pick 204:

Brandon Carter (OG) - Valuable OL depth

With pick 223:

EJ Wilson (DE) - More DL depth

With pick 249:

Cory Jackson (FB) - To help replace the loss of Hoover

I'll be pretty pissed if we trade next year's first round pick. If we want Tate that bad then we should think about trading up in the 2nd round by exchanging 2nd round picks and giving them a 4th round pick as compensation. I hate the idea of trading first round picks to get multiple picks of lower value.

On a side note...I don't like any of the DTs outside of the first round either. Unless Dan Williams takes a nose dive out of the first round (not likely but you never know) then I'm not a fan of taking a DT in the first few rounds. We made our bed by releasing the vets and now we have to deal with it. The releases that we made shouldn't dictate who we take in the draft. We should have had confidence in the guys we have stepping in (Tank, Louis Leonord, Corvey Irvin). Its going to piss me off if we start using lots of draft picks to replace veterans where we already have guys ready to come in and contribute.

One areas where I don't think we have talent to come in and hold down a starting position is #2 wide receiver. Through a trade or a high draft pick, that area better be filled. I think we have really good players at all other positions.

My ideal first couple of rounds would be:

2nd round - Golden Tate

3rd round - Colt McCoy

4th round - Jon Asamoah/Cam Thomas

5th round - Sergio Render/Jordan Shipley

6th round - Eric Decker

7th round - Leigh Tiffin

That would be my perfect draft. OR...if the Broncos would take a 2nd round pick for Brandon Marshall then send him on over.

I hate all these trade scenario's.. why can't people just make mocks based on our (actual) picks.. these damn trade scenario's are so highly improbable. You lose all credibility in my mind when posting trade scenario's.
