my prediction at WR

there's like a million threads on WR's, but i felt like starting up a new conversation that's narrowed the WR's down to just three, and possibly a FA. out of the guys coming out in the draft, there's only 3 that i see us being able to get that also fit with our philosophy on and off the field.

golden tate

mardy gilyard

brandon lafell

and the only FA i see us going after, should we go after one, would be Javon Walker. but i doubt we go after him.

and i said Golden Tate in that list because i believe we'll trade up to get him. most mock drafts have him going in the 2nd, somewhere near the top, more than likely. i think we'll trade up with our 2nd, 4th, and 6th round picks. or just the 2nd and 4th rounders. either way, we're trading up to get Golden Tate. which = 2 steve smith's on the field at once. :drool5:

I used to think Javon Walker had potential to be a great receiver in the league. I think he made the pro bowl in like 2004. But I think that receiver is definitely gone.

I like Golden Tate. We need a receiver that can stretch the field, and he runs a 4.3-4.4 40 yd dash I believe. If we can back the safeties off and give Smitty the ball in open field, I like our chances.

we should get torry holt, at least for this year. we can get a wide receiver in the 2nd round, and actually have a decent 3 man receiving group for a change. holt still had over 700 yards last year. at one time he said he wanted to play for the panthers 'cause he was born in north carolina and went to college there. he might play for a small contract. who knows? why not ask? oh ya, this team doesn't believe in free agency this year.

yeah, i personally think we should give up our 2nd and like a 4th rounder to move up a few spots to take golden tate. i wasn't sold on his highlight reel on youtube, but nfl.com had a nice vid on him and that vid sold me on him. he definitely has the skills to be a number one receiver in this league at some point in his career. but i personally think it's going to be between mardy gilyard and golden tate. brandon lafell would be a backup option, but i think Fox and Hurney are looking for speed this year. and what i think you'll see on draft day is them making a move for tate, giving up a later pick, but they'll still get a DT in the 3rd round. and they'll get a FA WR after the draft, i'm sure.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
