Tweet nugget from Michael Smith...

ESPN's Michael Smith is "hearing" that the Panthers are targeting a wide receiver in the second round.

Carolina selects 48th overall, and is not expected to draft Colt McCoy or Jimmy Clausen if they are available. With regard to pre-draft workouts and visits, the Panthers were linked to Taylor Price of Ohio and South Florida's Carlton Mitchell. Mitchell would give the team a certified deep threat with ideal size. Price has 4.4 speed, but projects as more of a possession guy.

So neither Benn or Tate. F00k me.

Well I don't think either of them falls 16 more spots so we'd have to trade up for them.

I was talking with a fellow Panther fan after class this morning and we were talking about ideal scenarios... I told him how their was the rumors on here from LaCanfora about trading up for McCoy...

I told him I wouldn't have a problem at all with trading next years #1 to get up in the first 5 picks or so of the 2nd this year, and take some combo of Tate/Benn/Gilyard/Price/Cody (DT). If we go WR/DT in the 2nd, I would take Jacoby Ford in the 3rd. Regardless, IMO we've got to add 2 WRs with our early picks. If we want a QB, take Pike, Lefevour, etc. and develop them with a later pick. Also would like to add Dakoda Watson later... In my mind, 2 WRs early, a DT, a QB, and hit one out of DE/LB/CB.

    • That would be crazy especially to us because our pick took Williams. And all the other talent we provided for them.  Tbey were smart we were stupid.
    • If you look at almost every QB in a team with a winning record or consistently in the playoffs their QB averages over 200 ypg. Here are a few ypg averages for 2025: Daniel Jones: 267, that is with an amazing RB. Mahomes: 261, that was with a few games without some of his weapons Baker: 239, lost his best weapon and still is putting up numbers Penix: 232, Falcons are floundering and Penix ypg is still higher than Bryce's Allen: 229 Lawrence: 230 Bryce: 173 and he isn't anywhere close to these other QBs. I included two teams that are not that great and Lawrence is not that good and still is posting higher passing stats then Bryce. Bryce has got to get his passing stats higher if he wants to keep his job. I want to win a Super Bowl and a QB struggling to pass 150 yards a game will not cut it. No, the conservative playcalling is not because of the young receivers and o-line. It is because Canales knows he is limited with Bryce and has to work around him.  Bryce has struggled to pass ever since he entered the league and 3 years in it is obvious he will never be a QB that can be relied to win the game with his arm.
