Since 2002, when the realignment took place, the NFC South record is 261-250-1.

  • The average Panther season is 8.875 W - 7.125 L
  • The average Saint season is 8.25 W - 7.75 L
  • The average TB season is 7.5 W - 8.5 L
  • The average Falcon season is 8 W - 7.875 L - .125 T

NFC South has been represented in 11 playoffs, 6 NFC Champ games, and 3 Super Bowls since 2002.

  • Panthers represent 3 playoffs, 2 NFC Champ games, and a SB.
  • Saints represent 3 playoffs, 2 Champ games, and a SB.
  • Bucs represent 3 playoffs, a Champ game, and a SB.
  • Falcons represent 3 playoffs and a Champ game.

EDIT: Added by request. Division results since 2002…

  • ATL 9 - CAR 7
  • CAR 11 - TB 5
  • CAR 11 - NO 5
  • NO 10 - ATL 6
  • TB 9 - ATL 7
  • TB 8 - NO 8

Overall against division…

  • CAR 29-19 (60.4%)
  • ATL 22-26 (45.8%)
  • NO 23-25 (47.9%)
  • TB 22-26 (45.8%)

Thought that was fairly interesting, somewhat proving that we're the best team in the division.

How does averaging a half win more prove that the panthers are the best team in the division? Last I checked the saints and bucs won a super bowl since the division was created. That would make the panthers 3rd best team in the division.

I'm trying to raise morale for the upcoming season haha. Yeah, it is fairly even. But hey, we have about half a win a season's lead on the Saints. So I'm fine with it.

You should include division record since the realignment. I could be wrong but I think Carolina might have the edge in Win % against division opponents.

Based on that I would put the Saints as the best team in the division's history. the won a SB and have been mediocre mostly except for Katrina.

The Bucs would be 2nd. The7 won a superbowl and made the playoffs a few times. They flat out sucked sometimes though.

I think that we would be 3rd. We were in a super bowl and did well in our playoff appearances. When we weren't in the playoffs we were mediocre.

The Falcons just aren't very good when stacked up in this context. They get 4th.

Wether you want to or not you have to factor in championships into the equation.

The saints have 2 division championships and a super bowl title

The bucs have 3 division championships and a super bowl title

The panthers have 2 division championships and an NFC title

The Falcons have 1 division championship.

I only rank the saints ahead of the bucs because the bucs have finished dead last in the division more times than anyone else.

Saying the panthers are the best team in the division only because they average a half a win more per season isnt being reasonable.

yeah, and the saints and bucs also have finished at the bottom of r division more then us and the falcons.....

      Ok fair to judge only his starts.  But you do acknowledge that going from "he's waaaay above league average in a number of categories" to "here's a single stat where he's above league average (not "waaaay") and another where he is exactly at the league average" is a pretty significant backpedal, no?  I'm guessing he's probably in the ~10th range for completion percentage too if we're only looking at starts (I'm too lazy to isolate his starts and do the calculations), so I'll grant you that one too.  But I don't think completion percentage is all that meaningful as a standalone stat if it isn't bolstered by good TD%, Y/A, etc. On that note, for how much people like posting Passing Charts in here (*cough* CRA) - if you peep Shough's passing charts, he hasn't completed a single 20+ yard pass in the past 3 games combined.  His last one was in Week 13 against the Dolphins, which was a single pass of 24 yards.  I just want to be consistent in how we apply our standards - I think it's always been warranted to criticize Bryce for it (even dating back to his rookie season), but do we suddenly not care about that with Shough? And yeah I did acknowledge that Saints' fans have reason to be excited about him and complimented his poise, which is giving my props.  Still not sure I agree that he looks better than a "ton" of QBs nor do I think you or anyone have really demonstrated that.  I think you are generally one of the more reasonable level-headed posters which is why I'm confused at what I consider to be rather hyperbolic language about Shough.

      It is a popularity contest.  The selection does have meaning though. It is also 1 of the criteria that is considered for the HOF. The game does not have any significance. The team hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade. That's why they don't get primetime national coverage. To the victors go the spoils.
