Miami Heat to pursue Raymond Felton

Recommended Posts

Raymond Felton, the top free agent point guard, has strong interest in the Heat, and Miami is expected to call Felton, among others, if it doesn't fill its cap with three stars.

One scout cautioned, "Felton is pretty good at a lot of things but not great at anything. And he was torched by Jameer Nelson in the playoffs."

Good. I would love for us to find a better pg and not dump a bunch into him. He is an average at best pg.

It's not that he is a bad point guard, and he will be somewhat hard to replace. Felton is actually a top 15 point guard based on stats, he is just in the wrong system. Felton is a score first type of point guard and when he tried to become a pass first type of point guard in the NBA Playoffs he got torched. The problem is the Bobcats don't need a score first type of point guard. We already have capable scorer's in Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson, we just need someone who can feed them the ball. Felton would fit well with a team like the Pistons or Kings. Now it's time for the tough part, what point guard do the Bobcats go after in free agency? This particular free agency class is filled with everything but point guards. However, there are a few that the Cats should take a look at. These individuals include

Earl Watson- 3.1 Reb./ 5.1 Ast./ 1.3 Stl./ 7.8 Pts.

Steve Blake- 2.4 Reb./ 4.8 Ast./ 7.3 Pts.

Luke Ridnour- 1.8 Reb./ 4.0 Ast./ 10.4 Pts.

Yeah you always throw stats out there like its the end all be all. Are you the one that tried to say the Bobcats bench was better than the Magic because you looked their season stats up? Not sure what Bobcats team you watched last year but we were all defense and the reason we got the boot from the playoffs was because we couldn't score and Felton was getting torched. Think if we have to play one of these elite pg's like Rose, Deron, Paul, etc... We would never stand a chance. Felton is an average at best pg. No where near top 15. He is not going to thrive in any other system. If he was our backup i would be ok with that. There isn't much out there right now i know but i don't want to throw a bunch of money his way just because no one else is better right now. Then that means we're stuck with him.

If you don't think Felton is a top 15 point guard then it is because you are a duke homer.

The only reason you think he is because you're a Bobcats and Heels homer. This is the NBA not college i could careless where he went to school. I want to win not be average which is what Felton will do for us. He is at best a back up in this league. Keep looking at stats.

You're severely underrating Felton. Nobody is trying to say that he's an elite PG, but he's very solid all-around and while he'd be in the bottom part of that list, I think that it can be argued that he's among the top half of PGs in the league. A lot of people are looking solely at the Orlando series and damning him for that. He didn't have a good series and got torched by Nelson, but that shouldn't discount how solid, if unspectacular, he was throughout the entire regular season.

And stats tell how well a player has performed There's even some new-age stats, much like in baseball, that start to tell more of the story. Why wouldn't we look at stats if we want to compare players?

    • Depends, if we would have hired Wilkes and kept darnold were probably be right about where we are now. An average team fighting for a winning record and nfcs crown
    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
