Derek Fisher will meet with Pat Riley...

Lakers free agent point guard Derek Fisher has a meeting scheduled with Miami Heat president Pat Riley on Saturday, according to a source close to the situation.

Fisher's preference remains to re-sign with the Lakers, but he feels the need to explore his options and listen to Riley's pitch after the Heat landed free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh. Miami also re-signed Dwyane Wade and were rumored to be closing in on Mike Miller.

According to a source, negotiations between Fisher and the Lakers have remained positive and the team has put an offer on the table that was stronger than what's been previously reported (one year, $2.5 million). Fisher returned from a trip to China on Wednesday, but he's had several conversations with both Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak and Riley.

The Chicago Bulls and New Jersey Nets have also expressed an interest in the five-time NBA champion.

Earlier in the week, Lakers star Kobe Bryant expressed support for Fisher, who entered the NBA with him back in 1996.

"We need to have him back, it's as simple as that," Bryant told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin at his Kobe Bryant Skills Academy on the UC Santa Barbara campus. "It's not a question of if he will be back; it's a matter of when.

"I don't care what [the cost] is. ... They need to work that out and get him back because his significance to our ballclub and to me cannot be understated."

Last week, a source close to the negotiations told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher the Lakers are confident the point guard will return to the Lakers next season.

If Fisher signs elsewhere, Steve Blake, whom the team recently signed to a four-year, $16 million contract, would replace him in the starting lineup.

I have a feeling it's probably more aimed to scare the Lakers FO and try to get them to go to the 5 mil number he wants....

Good luck with that. Anyone remember las year the Lakers made an excellent offer to Lamar Odom which Odom declined, then went lookiing for a better contract elsewhere. Eventually he came back with his tail between his legs and signed for less money than the Lakers original offer.

Winner! He may be Kobe's buddy, but Felton + 5 rings = Derek Fisher

This statement is absolutely asinine.....Fisher is one of the few clutch players in the NBA. When the lights shine brightest Fisher is at his best.....sure he's lost a step or two over the years but I still would take Fish for his clutch factor and leadership any day over Felton.....

He can be clutch and be a leader all he wants, but when it comes down to it, he's comparable to Raymond Felton as a basketball player. Here's their career stats, per 36min:

Felton: 13.7pts 6.6ast 1.5stl 2.6tov .410 FG% 14.1 PER

Fisher: 12.3 pts 4.3ast 1.4stl 1.7tov .402 FG% 12.3 PER

Roughly equal scorers, Felton is the better facilitator, equally adept at getting steals, Fisher is the better ball handler, Fisher is actually a worse percentage shooter than Felton is, and according to PER Felton has been a better overall player. Fisher may be things like "clutch" and he may be a locker room leader, but when it comes to on-the-court production, they're pretty much equals.

Yea but being clutch and being a leader are huge assets that make him a better player then Felton.....also Fisher has proven he can score when he needs to.....if Kobe and Pau are having bad games Fisher is usually the one who picks up the slack.....

I'm not discounting Fisher's leadership abilities, which are great when we're talking about the chemistry of a team. And teams with good chemistry play better. But the simple fact of the matter is that when we break things down to a measurable quality - on the court production - Felton is the superior player. You can say that you'd rather have Fisher because of his leadership and "clutchness" and I won't argue with you, but numbers don't lie.

    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
