Wrapping up an ugly one

That, folks, was a professional football game, for which hard-working people paid full price.

The Jets beat the Panthers 9-3 in a spectacle that included seven turnovers, 20 punts and just 287 yards of total offense — by the two teams combined.

At least it didn't rain.

The Panthers still appear unable to throw the ball, after spending the offseason working on that part. It was hard to tell, as when Matt Moore got the ball out, it was either rushed to the point of inaccuracy or dropped.

Panthers coach John Fox was fairly nonchalant, putting most of the blame on the fact the Jets pressured from many angles, none of which his team game-planned against. You're going to hear a lot of that over the next few days, but you'll also hear a lot of low scores if they don't fix it.

Other highlights from the evening:

-- The Panthers' 6-of-18 on third down was nothing to be thrilled about. But it beat the Jets' 5-of-19.

-- Armanti Edwards wasn't using the inexperience card, when asked about his two mistakes that led to fumbles.

"I caught over 100 punts in camp, that's not an excuse anymore."

-- Injury wise, they seemed to come out OK.

Fox said CB C.J. Wilson "got dinged" and that CB Captain Munnerlyn had a calf strain.

Wilson went down after defending a deep pass, and asked how he felt, grinned and replied: "I just fell on my face. I'm good."

-- The intent was to play QB Tony Pike third, since he didn't get much work last week, but that didn't work out.

That means after two games, QB Hunter Cantwell has the highest rating on the team at 48.2 for the preseason. Cantwell was also the thrower of the Panthers lone passing touchdown last preseason.

Heh, nannerpuss got more pie too

You see, people are expecting this one to give out pie, not receive it.

Am I the only guy that loves defensive games? I mean I like it more when we win them...but still.

Not when the other team gets to our QB every other play. :o

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
    • Well I guess he should stop playing football. This was his defining moment and chance to prove he was generational and he failed. What a waste of football life..
