Potential Head Coaches

Mr. Scot

Is anyone else warming up to Brian Schottenheimer?

Me? Not really. I understand the hype. Just not a big believer.

Grimm was coaching in Washington when Hurney was there, it's certain they probably know each other

I didn't take Grimm quite as seriously as a candidate when I wrote his profile, largely because the Cardinals haven't exactly sustained their initial success.

Still, if inside connections count for anything - and they generally do - Grimm could wind up being the favorite. He was drafted by Hurney mentor Bobby Beathard and was playing for the Redskins during the two years Marty spent in their PR department.

I'd expect him to at least get an interview.

And now, a few tips of the hat to the Harbamaniacs :D

Focus, leadership make Jim Harbaugh hot name for 2011

Jim Harbaugh Named Finalist for Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award

Peter King predicts the next Panthers Head Coach

And one for Andrew Luck fans....

The Luck-y Carolina Panthers?

For nostalgia's sake, a headline you might hope to see again...

Panthers sign Jim Harbaugh

Plus an old profile still hanging around in the ESPN database.

Jim Harbaugh, Carolina Panthers

All that's missing is the old Hulk Hogan theme music

Enjoy, fellas

Davis and Anderson are a loss, but we might have to say goodbye to one ideally, and two in more grave times. You could add Brown, who some said wouldn't have the athleticism for a 3-4 in space; Hardy, Johnson, and Brayton won't fit the 3-4. Yes, Brayton played in one. Yes, it was a bad idea.

Regardless, Beason should be here. And there's no reason we don't put a defense around him. Incidentally, we have one built around him, that needs a bigtime DT and that's about it. I like the idea of "we built this defense around our best player" a lot more than "we threw out half our defense".

beason is a great fit for a 4-3. what i worry about is him being affected by a transition to the 3-4 that vilma was in NY.

moving the team to a 3-4 would risk making beason ineffective as well as quite a few other guys we have. not sure that would be a wise move.

And here I thought you were responding to my "Harbamanics" post

I can't think of a good name for the "Draft Luck" portion of the fanbase though. "Luckamaniacs" just doesn't work for me.

FYI: The King post was in response to some goofball on Twitter (http://twitter.com/vwesr). I have no idea who this kid is :D

that was some good reading. i wish we had gotten him to start a game or two, but maybe it's best he didn't.

as for harbamaniacs.....we'll have to find something beter than that. :D

If Harbaugh / Luck happens I figure by this time next year we'll be swimming in bad puns :(

I'm sure it'd take about ten seconds or so for Coach Harbaugh to become "Coach Hardass". Long completions could quickly become "Lucky Strikes". Game performances will go down as either "Good Luck" or "Bad Luck" (hopefully more of the first) and if we keep Clausen, Heaven only knows how many writers will refer to the quarterback battle as "Luck and the Irish" :frown2:

interesting that he picked chip kelly. it's kind of early to be considering him a pro HC. you can't argue with the quick success, but i thnk without any experience in the pros at all that it would be too much of a transition.

i'll take the puns all day long as long as they come with a lot of wins.

I'll leave tonight with this last bit of random speculation.

Luck's college number (12) is unavailable. Should he be picked, I suppose Gettis could give it up. If not, I wonder if Luck would take Harbaugh's temporary Panthers number (5).

Honestly, I'm not sure I want to see a #12 at quarterback for the Panthers again anyway.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
